The Electrician reports to the Maintenance Manager/Designate. Duties include maintaining and trouble-shooting the electric and electronic systems which includes removing existing set-ups and installing new service as required. Electrician work on trouble-shooting machine breakdowns, installation and maintenance of PLC controlled, high-speed machinery, in addition to preventative maintenance of the operation. Works safely at all times, keeps work area clean and ensures that day-to-day operations run smoothly and efficiently. Follow/Support Food Safety and Quality Guidelines. 

 

  1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Within the limits of applicable policies, procedures and established plans, they have authority to take action and make decisions.  The assignment of work or delegation or responsibility does not relinquish responsibility for results.  Performance will be measured by the extent to which the responsibilities have been fulfilled. Read and understand the required JSA’s, maintain quality as per Food Safety and Quality Guidelines and achieve company target production goals. 

 

Functional Responsibilities

  • ·        Read and understand the Job Safety Analysis (JSA)
  • Maintain all technical documentation related to equipment and systems (schematics, work instructions, manuals, etc.)
  • Must be able to install, troubleshoot, and repair complex production equipment, involving work of a varied nature with minimum supervision.
  • Enhance equipment performance by installing modifications; making adjustments; and recommending improvements
  • Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignments of moving parts
  • Assemble and install equipment, using hand tools and power tools
  • Electrical troubleshooting and fault finding of drives
  • PLC troubleshooting and modifying programs
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical and electronic control systems and other related devices
  • To prevent equipment failure through analysis, parts replacement and care of machinery by means of approved maintenance program (CMMS/EAM)
  • To troubleshoot and repair any breakdowns in the shortest possible time and make an analysis of the failure to determine the reason and prevention of a future similar breakdown
  • Share knowledge of equipment by training and coaching fellow employees
  • Occasionally performs work in other trades
  • Works from drawings, written or verbal instructions and sketches
  • Operates production equipment to check work as required
  • Directs work of helpers and contractors as required
  • Ensures compliance with manufacturing, NSF, health and safety, government regulations and all SQF Food Safety standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains a high standard of Health and Safety, strictly adheres to Health and Safety SOPs and complies with safety regulations as stated within the Health and Safety Act/FSA/OHSA/CSA. 
  • Correctly enters computer W/O specific details, parts/machine shop, requisitions as required. 
  • ·        Research parts (where required) so that correct information provided when requesting parts to be ordered.
  • Assist and communicate regularly with maintenance purchasing specialist with replenishing stock as required.
  • Operate scissor lift in a safe manner after successful training is completed. 
  • Assist in assuring HACCP, GMP’s, Work Instructions and Food Safety Quality system requirements (SQF) are in compliance.
  • Takes direction from Supervisors and Maintenance Manager. 
  • Assists maintenance department as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

  1. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Regular contact and communication with maintenance lead hand. 
  • Regular contact and communication with maintenance and production employees.
  • Regular contact and communication with engineers, supervisors and managers.

 

 

 

  1. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Regular use of computers, telephones and other office equipment (MS Office/EAM).
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • On call weekend coverage, as scheduled by management. 
  • May be required to work days/afternoon/night shifts. 

 

 

  1. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must wear appropriate PPE according to Electrical Code (including arch flash requirements). 

 

  1. WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Plant and office environments.

 

 

  1. QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Valid Ontario Electrical license (442A preferably 309A as well).
  • Minimum 4-5 years experience.
  • Must be proficient in the English language – speak, write, read and comprehend. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of WHMIS, GMP requirements
  • Experience in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement is required. 
  • Knowledge of Electrical codes with the ability to work with ESA inspector for inspections. 

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Allen Bradley, Bekhoff, and Siemens would be considered an asset. 
  • Proficient troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in the areas of electronic drives and PLC controls preferred. 
  • Ability to implement changes and improvements.
