Your Opportunity
The role of a Civil Engineer is to work as a team member on small and large Transportation projects. The Civil Engineer, EIT will work under direct supervision of a Senior Project Engineer to develop skills in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering systems or products for a project.
A Civil Engineer performs a variety of tasks which may include assisting with typical projects including development of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, engineering reports and studies for infrastructure projects, including transportation, drainage, and CAD production.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Select and apply appropriate design criteria to perform minor, major, and complex roadway/highway transportation design assignments.
- Performs basic engineering calculations.
- Assists in the preparation of engineering project documents, pertaining to specific projects.
- Prepare high quality contract documents (plans, specifications, and estimates) for the construction of roadway/drainage projects.
- Prepares site/engineering assessments, facilitates permit sketches and permitting processes.
- Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
- Utilizes relevant software programs to prepare exhibits and complex working drawings.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned, and able to be cross trained for related roadway disciplines including drainage, signing, pavement markings, lighting, and signalization design.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
- Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
- Working knowledge of design standards, codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with relevant software such as AutoCAD and Microstation.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field.
- EI License is required.
- No previous experience is required. Prior exposure to Transportation Civil Engineering design would be considered an asset.
