What We Are Looking For

The Assistant Vice Provost for Research Pre-Award Administration provides strategic and operational leadership for pre-award research administration activities at Baylor University. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Research, this position oversees proposal development and submission ensuring compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements. The role collaborates with faculty, administrators, and sponsors to expand research funding, foster interdisciplinary partnerships, and enhance Baylor’s research capacity and visibility.

A Master’s degree and ten years of relevant work experience are required. 

*All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. 

What You Will Do

  • Lead and manage all aspects of pre-award services, ensuring effective preparation, review, and submission of proposals for federal, state, foundation, corporate, and other external funding sources
  • Provide strategic leadership for the pre-award team, fostering collaboration, professional development, and continuous improvement to support the university’s research mission and ensure high-quality services across academic units
  • Direct the design and execution of comprehensive pre-award training programs, covering proposal strategy and development, budget formulation and justification, and compliance with sponsor and institutional requirements
  • Serve as the institution’s expert on pre-award research administration, providing authoritative interpretation of institutional policies and sponsor-specific guidelines
  • Collaborate with compliance, finance, legal, human resources, informational technology and unit leadership to address proposal-related matters such as subawards, cost-sharing, hiring, data security and budget formulation
  • Lead initiatives to enhance and maintain electronic research administration systems (e.g., CARA), ensuring efficient and compliant pre-award operations
  • Ensure maintenance and tracking of all pre-award documentation guaranteeing accuracy, completeness, and adherence to submission deadlines
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
  • Ability to comply with university policies 
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
