PAY RANGE: $25.11 to $30.20 hourly

Established in 2023, CommuniCare+OLE is the result of a union of two health centers with  deep roots in their respective communities and reputations for providing high-quality primary care to all, regardless of insurance or ability to pay: OLE Health of Napa and Solano Counties and CommuniCare Health Centers of Yolo County. Building on a legacy established by both organizations in 1972, CommuniCare+OLE is a network of federally-qualified health centers with 17 sites across Napa, Solano, and Yolo Counties. It offers comprehensive care, including medical, dental, behavioral health and substance use treatment, nutrition, optometry, pharmacy, care coordination, referrals, and enrollment assistance to more than 70,000 individuals, and no one is turned away due to lack of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay. JOB SUMMARY/OVERVIEW:

The Medical Assistant works with the medical services staff to assist with medical visits and provide initial patient intake. The Medical Assistant works as part of a multidisciplinary team composed of the clinic services coordinator, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and community health workers educators to provide comprehensive care to a primarily low income, non-English speaking population. The Medical Assistant I ensure optimum patient care through the efficient rooming of patients, exhibiting good communication with patients and other staff, performing medical procedures, providing patient education, follow-up care instructions, and completing daily documentation.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS/TRAINING 

  1. Education: 
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited medical assistant program in California; CA Medical Assistant certification strongly preferred.
  • ·        Must have EMT certification or similar certification in lieu of Medical Assistant certification.
  • ·        Phlebotomy Certificate strongly preferred.
  1. Experience/Lived Experience: 
  • Entry level position up to one year of experience.
  • Must certify and remain current in CPR.
  1. Special Skills/Training: 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
  • Computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite, strong data entry skills; electronic health record system required.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish/Dari/Punjabi/Vietnamese strongly preferred. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail required.
  • ·        Reliable transportation required.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.

Interviews patients for program eligibility for a variety of health care coverage programs including, but not limited to, Covered California, Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, Patient Assistance Program (PAP), and County Medical Services Program (CMSP).

2.

Assists patients with applications to the various programs and in collection of necessary documentation as necessary. 

3.

Educates patients, family members and community about various health coverage programs. 

4.

Provide data entry of patient information into electronic health record system.

5.

Supporting community events and health fairs. 

6.

Responsible for greeting patients into exam room areas and driving a positive patient customer service experience

7.

Rooms patients, obtains and documents vital signs. 

8.

Collects and documents patient history and current state of health

9.

Disinfects and prepares treatment rooms, equipment and supplies in a timely manner to ensure optimum flow

10.

Provides patient education and follow-up care instructions as directed by provider at discharge. 

11.

Performs panel management and non-visit tasks as assigned by Provider or Nurse

12.

Works closely with providers to provide high quality care to each patient by addressing their health needs and concerns 

13.

Proactively ensure that Provider/MA “huddles” take place on time in preparation for each shift

14.

Performs various routine screening and procedures as directed by medical provider and document findings as per protocol. 

15.

Performs various medical assistant procedures, including but not limited to:  finger sticks for hemoglobin checks; ear washes; nebulizer treatments; urine dipsticks; specimen collection for throat and/or urine cultures; wound cleaning; PPD placement; INR; glucose; HCG; and Hemoglobin A1C (some procedures may not be applicable to all sites)

16.

Administers immunizations per provider order and documents in electronic health record

17.

Ensures that all logs, forms, records and charts are complete, thorough and accurate

18.

Documents freezer & refrigerator temperature and takes appropriate action to maintain correct temperatures 

19.

Runs quality assurance tests daily to ensure proper functionality of equipment for in-house testing

20.

Practices standard safety precautions to ensure safety to self, other staff and patients, including handling of contained waste and sharps, and cleaning and disinfecting medical equipment after use

21.

Communicates clearly with providers, other staff and patients to promote optimum clinic flow and proper patient hand off; communicates with Back Office Supervisor on urgent issues

22.

Appropriately completes chart prep, supports with QI measures, as well as carrying out other administrative tasks assigned by the back office supervisor.

Ensures that patients messages are responded to in a timely manner as indicated by site leadership.

Proactively helps teammates during down time

Recommends improvement in processes and practices through the proper channels

26.

Performs other duties as assigned.
