About the Department
POSITION SUMMARY:
An employee in this position performs professional work in the administration and coordination of Harnett County’s Juvenile Restitution/Community Service & Teen Court Program in accordance with applicable state and County laws and regulations. This includes; Teen Court proceedings, work site transports; assuring clients are performing their assigned tasks; monitoring clients’ compliance with court orders; and help determining client resolution or referral back to the court system.
Hiring Range: $40,457.00
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Helps develop internal operating procedures and policies; and attends various conferences and workshops in the continual development of program improvements.
- Attends juvenile court and receives referrals; conducts intake procedures with youth and parents; completes paperwork; and continually contacts clients to ensure program compliance.
- Assigns clients to work sites; transports clients to and from work sites; supervises clients at the work; and maintains daily records for all completed work.
- Provides training in job seeking skills and job placement assistance; explores work sites with community members.
- May serve on various Advisory Committees to ensure that the program is meeting the needs of the clients.
- Monitors restitution payments, made to the Clerk of Court by clients; allocates funds for victim restitution; and conducts exit interview upon completion of client’s participation in program.
- Attends required meetings per state guidelines such as local OJJ staffing, monthly JCPC meetings; and other regional/state meetings.
- Completes required reports.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Associate Degree in Human Services, criminal justice, or a related field;
- One (1) year of related work experience in juvenile related work;
- Or equivalent education and/or experience;
- Knowledge of Juvenile Restitution Program (JRP) and all relevant principles, practices, methods, and equipment.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws, local ordinances, and policies governing JRP.
- Knowledge of juvenile psychology and counseling methods.
- Knowledge of the physical, economic, and social characteristics of the County.
- Knowledge of the application of information technology to work responsibilities.
- Knowledge of County budgeting and purchasing policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of grant program administration.
- Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work with a juvenile population in the resolution of program requirements.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate records and reports.
- Ability to write and administer grants.
- Ability to build and maintain cooperative and effective public relations with the community.
- Ability to work effectively with court personnel, local government personnel, client families, and the private sector.
