About the Department
This is specialized enforcement and investigative work in the enforcing County Animal Services Ordinances.
An employee assigned to this classification investigates animal cruelty and neglect charges and performs related duties to promote compliance with Alachua County ordinances regulating animal treatment.
Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, observation of the results obtained, and appropriate employee performance appraisals.
The following are the eligibility requirements:
- Current, valid Florida driver license
- Euthanasia Technician Certification, or pass their assigned Euthanasia Technician Certification Course within six (6) months of hire
- Current, valid Florida Notary Public, or become one within six (6) months of hire
- High School Diploma/GED
- One (1) or more years of experience in the area of animal control, veterinary medicine, code and/or law enforcement, or any equivalent combination of related training and experience
- An Associate’s degree or better in any area listed above may substitute for the one (1) year of experience
- Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Be of good moral character, have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral character, perjury or false statements
- No tattoos that depict violence, gang affiliation, illegal substance or activities
