Position Title:  Design Engineer
Location:  Seattle, WA or Phoenix, AZ

Your role 
Join the world’s leading data center experts and design solutions for some of the most innovative customers on the planet. As a Data Center Design Engineer, you will create detailed engineering packages addressing space, power, cooling, and connectivity requirements during the pre-sales and post sales process. You will act as a subject matter expert for assigned campuses or buildings, ensuring technical accuracy, consistency, and seamless transitions from sales to implementation.
This role combines customer-facing engagement, technical design expertise, and collaboration with Solutions Engineers, Portfolio Management, Operations, and Design & Construction teams to deliver optimized solutions that align with customer needs and company standards.

 

What you’ll do 
•    Partner with Solutions Engineers to understand customer business/technical needs.
•    Design and deliver optimized whitespace, power, cooling, and connectivity solutions.
•    Create engineering packages: drawings, floor plans, technical documentation, and proposals.
•    Conduct site surveys, due diligence, and indicative CFD analyses.
•    Supporting RFPs and technical due diligence in collaboration with Solutions Engineers.
•    Collaborate with sales, portfolio, and operations teams during all stages of the sales cycle.
•    Provide technical expertise during customer tours and solution presentations.
•    Act as the local Subject Matter Expert for assigned campuses: whitespace design, inventory, connectivity, pathways and capacity management.
•    Perform Service Order reviews, cost validations requirements.
•    Support post-sales teams with accurate handover packages, Technical Service Reviews, and order materials.
•    Support forecasting, pipeline, and market analysis.

 

What you’ll need 
Education & Experience:
o    Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience in lieu of degree).
o    3–5 years in a B2B sales engineering/design environment (data centers, telecom, networking, high-tech facilities).

Technical Expertise:
o    Proven design skills in high-density data centers (power, cooling, space optimization, airflow).
o    Familiarity with AI and High Density HPC requirements (GPUs, specialized processors).
o    Familiarity in liquid cooling technologies and relevant best practices.
o    Strong understanding of Data Center power distribution and UPS system standards.
o    Strong understanding of network architecture, fiber optics, and connectivity solutions.
o    Knowledge of data center security (physical & cyber).
o    Proficiency with CAD/Visio/AutoCAD, CFD modeling preferred.
o    Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.

o    Ability to translate complex technical requirements into clear, actionable solutions.
o    Strong project management, critical thinking, and documentation skills.
o    Adaptability to fast-paced, ever changing global environments.

Our Compensation Philosophy
Digital Realty offers its employees a highly competitive compensation package, excellent benefits, and an environment that recognizes and rewards your contributions. Central to our compensation philosophy is rewarding our employees for achieving the values and objectives aligned to the company's overall goals and values.

Our published pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and geographical location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. Moreover, an employee’s total compensation package varies by role and may include salary, cash bonus or commissions, and equity awards not quantified below.

Compensation range: $120,000 - $130,000 annually. This compensation range represents the Company’s good faith belief as to what it will pay as a base salary/hourly rate for this position at the time of this posting.
