The Lead HR Generalist oversees key human resource functions, including employee relations, recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, performance management, policy development, and regulatory compliance. In addition to performing as an HR Generalist, this position supervises the HR Generalist and HR Specialist roles and supporting their professional growth. The Lead HR Generalist works closely with the AVP of Human Resources to align HR practices with the College’s strategic goals and ensures legal compliance and consistency in implementation of HR best practices.
Position Duties
- Supervises the daily responsibilities of the HR Specialist and HR Generalist positions, including timecard management, workload distribution, and conducting employee evaluations.
- Oversees and coordinates employee relations issues, including investigations, conflict resolution, progressive discipline, and performance improvement planning. Maintains regular communication with the AVP of Human Resources regarding outcomes and next steps.
- Serves as a trusted advisor to managers and directors, providing guidance on HR policies, compliance issues, and employee management strategies to support departmental and institutional objectives.
- Collaborates with HR staff to evaluate and update institutional policies, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. Proactively recommends policy enhancements to mitigate legal risks and promote HR best practices.
- Partners with managers and directors to anticipate workforce needs, developing proactive HR strategies for recruitment and talent acquisition and retention, succession planning, and organizational development. Ensures initiatives are aligned with the College’s long-term goals.
- Oversees and delegates the full cycle talent acquisition process, including requisition creation, job postings, recruitment strategies, candidate selection, and offer negotiation to attract and retain high-quality talent.
- Oversees and delegates job description updates and creation of new positions, ensures consistency, accuracy, and alignment of job pay grades.
- Assures appropriate compensation analysis using internal data and external market trends to support and recommend competitive and equitable compensation practices.
- Collaborates with HR staff on benefits administration and related matters and helps identify opportunities to improve employee understanding and utilization of benefits and offerings.
- Counsels with the AVP of HR to support performance management and professional development of the HR Generalist team, ensuring alignment with departmental goals.
- Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Workers’ Compensation and other relevant laws.
- Leads and delegates key HR projects from inception through completion, ensuring adherence to timeline, budgets, and desired outcomes. Ensures successful project execution and alignment with organizational goals.
- Collaborates with HR staff to organize and support employee events.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
- Five (5) years of experience as an HR Generalist or HR Business Partner.
- Strong knowledge of labor laws and HR best practices
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Experience with HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems).
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Human Resources or related field.
- HR certification (SHRM or HRCI)
- Experience in higher education or public sector
