The West Platte School District, located in Weston, Missouri, is seeking a strong and caring individual to fill an opening for a CNA willing to serve as a Paraprofessional in our Special Education Department for the 2025-26 school year.
POSITION TITLE: Paraprofessional/CNA
F.L.S.A. STATUS: Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 60 college hours with Missouri substitute teacher certification and/or CNA certification. Bachelor’s Degree with Missouri teacher certification preferred. Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator and/or Director of Special Services TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time
JOB GOAL: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) willing to serve in a paraprofessional role to support the educational and health needs of students. This dual-role position requires a professional who can provide direct healthcare services while also assisting in the classroom to enhance the instructional program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide health services and support to students under the supervision of the school nurse and other healthcare professionals, including those with special needs.
2. Work directly with students and the classroom teacher to enhance learning opportunities and provide one-on-one or small-group instructional support.
3. Operate instructional equipment for the classroom.
4. Assist students with mobility needs. (May involve lifting, toileting, etc.)
5. Gather and produce instructional material for use in the classroom.
6. Assist with appropriate behavioral intervention techniques as directed by the supervising teacher.
7. Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding students and family's academic and social needs with regards to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
8. Provide direct care to students, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility.
9. Aid in the administering of tests relating to curriculum.
10. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
11. Assist with the implementation and monitoring of IEPs under direction of the teacher.
12. Assist in the implementation of the curriculum and measure demonstrated competencies by students.
13. Collaborate with other staff members to meet holistic needs of assigned students. 14. Implement accommodations and modifications to curriculum as needed.
15. Keep a daily log of student academic/social progress.
16. Maintain a professional development log of hours completed.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist transportation supervision.
2. Help with seatwork or individual student work.
3. Support students with special healthcare needs, which may include g-tube feedings, catheter care, and other specialized procedures as directed by the school nurse or physician.
4. Arrange instructional materials for the classroom.
5. Attend meetings/training as requested.
6. Maintain accurate and confidential health records and documentation of all care provided.
7. Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, dress, and appropriate professional manner for the work setting.
8. Demonstrates effective human relations and communications skills.
9. Adheres to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
10. Adheres to good safety practices.
11. Work overtime as directed.
12. All other duties as required or assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
An individual who holds this position is frequently required to stoop, bend and kneel. May have to use therapeutic restraint. The employee will regularly lift students. The employee must have both close and distance vision.
CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
