Internship description:

Under the guidance of Horizon personnel, students will have the opportunity to participate in a shadowing experience during January 2026. This opportunity allows applicants to observe Horizon’s Care Coordination Team in Tonawanda, the Residential Team in Sanborn, NY, and an Outpatient Team in Tonawanda, NY. The purpose of this experience is to provide students with practical exposure to real-world settings aligned with their field of study.

Direct Experience opportunities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Observe intake procedures and the preparation of pre-admission paperwork.
  • Observe counselors providing crisis intervention and management.
  • Observe the co-facilitation of skills training groups.
  • Observe the preparation of treatment plans.
  • Observe the process of maintaining clinical documentation.
  • Observe Care Coordinators as they connect members to resources and services in the community.
  • Observe travel with staff to meet members in their homes or in the community throughout Niagara or Erie County.
  • Observe the process of preparing status updates, court reports, and submitting Department of Social Services reports.
  • Observe filing and other administrative duties.

  • January 13: Shadow an Outpatient Facility at 1376 Niagara Falls Blvd in Tonawanda, NY.
  • January 14: Shadow our Horizon Village Residential Facility at 6301 Inducon Drive in Sanborn, NY.
  • January 15: Shadow our Care Coordination Team in at 1000 Youngs in Tonawanda, NY. 

 OR

  • January 20: Shadow an Outpatient Facility at 1376 Niagara Falls Blvd in Tonawanda, NY.
  • January 21: Shadow our Horizon Village Residential Facility at 6301 Inducon Drive in Sanborn, NY.
  • January 22: Shadow our Care Coordination Team in at 1000 Youngs in Tonawanda, NY. 

Qualifications:

Current enrollment in an Associate's or Bachelors Level program in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health or Substance Abuse Counseling, or other related Health and Human Services field required. This opportunity is open for students who do not need an internship for credit through their current university or college.
