Summary: Grounds Manager is responsible for maintaining and enhancing Peddler’s Village’s 42 acres of outdoor spaces, including landscaping, hardscaping, lawn and tree care, snow and ice removal, installation and removal of annual holiday light display, while also managing budgets and coordinating with other departments to ensure a beautiful, welcoming, and safe environment for guests and employees. Key duties include staff supervision, project management, equipment maintenance, budget management, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards for aesthetically pleasing, safe and functional grounds. 

 Key Responsibilities

  •  Staff Management: Hire, train, and supervise grounds staff, ensuring efficient, high-quality work is performed safely and in compliance with standards. 
  •  Horticultural & Landscape Maintenance: Responsible for all aspects of tree, plant and lawn care, including mowing, planting, pruning, fertilization, and pest control. 
  •  Snow and Ice removal: Responsible for snow and ice removal of parking lots, sidewalks and brick pathways to ensure guest and employee safety during inclement weather.
  •  Safety & Cleanliness: Ensure grounds are free of hazards, especially during inclement weather (snow, ice), and manage trash removal to maintain high cleanliness standards. Maintain the cleanliness of outdoor public restrooms
  •  Holiday Light Display: Responsible for the installation, execution, maintenance and removal of the annual holiday light display. 
  •  Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage the groundskeeping budget, including developing cost estimates, forecasting expenses, managing supplies and planning long-term landscape maintenance strategies.
  •  Equipment Maintenance: Ensure the safe operation, cleaning, and maintenance of all groundskeeping equipment and vehicles. Selecting, maintaining, and managing the inventory of groundskeeping equipment and necessary supplies.
  •  Project Management: Plan and execute landscape improvements, safety and maintenance projects to enhance the grounds and ensure safe conditions for our employees and guests. Coordinating and managing projects, such as landscape design, renovations, or construction, and often collaborating with external vendors and architects.
  • Safety & Compliance: Developing and enforcing safety procedures and training, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and managing hazardous conditions, such as snow removal or tree removal. 
  • Site Assessment: Regularly inspecting grounds to identify maintenance or safety issues, assessing ecological health, and ensure the overall aesthetics and functionality of the grounds. 
  •  Interdepartmental Collaboration: Coordinate with other departments to support festivals & events, address guest concerns, and ensure the proper functioning of outdoor amenities. 
  •  Environmental Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with environmental regulations and sustainable practices.

 Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Horticultural knowledge: Strong understanding of plants, trees, and soil science.
  • Leadership and Management: Excellent ability to lead, motivate, and organize a team. 
  • Budgeting and Financial Acumen: Ability to develop and manage budgets and control costs. 
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with grounds keeping equipment and knowledge of pest management. 
  • Problem-Solving: Strong ability to identify and resolve issues related to grounds maintenance. 
  • Communication: Effective communication skills for coordinating with staff, other departments and guests. 
  • Experience: Proven experience in grounds management. 
  • Hands on leadership: Ability to perform tasks necessary to maintain the grounds, including operating equipment.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to work varied schedules, including nights and weekends as needed. 

Education and Experience

  • Five (5) years of related experience to include landscape and grounds management, facility management, along with supervisory experience; Associate degree in related field, preferred, and or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
