To drive this, we’ve established a Major Projects team to deliver major projects across our port network. This is your chance to join a team delivering ABP’s twin missions of Keeping Britain Trading and Enabling the Energy Transition.

 

The Opportunity

 

We’re looking for a Design and Engineering Lead (Major Projects) to ensure the optimal technical delivery of our most complex major capital projects. You will:

• Lead the Major Projects Design and Engineering team, who are responsible the asset and infrastructure delivery on key development projects, often involving large-scale marine infrastructure.

• Provide expert technical advice and leadership to the wider Major Projects team.

• Work closely with regional Engineering and Asset Management functions to ensure projects are delivered effectively in their local context.

• Drive continuous improvement through our Group Professional Services Framework (GPSF) and contribute to setting technical best practice for ABP projects.

 

This is a high-impact role where your expertise will directly influence faster delivery, lower capital spend, and improved returns on major infrastructure projects.

 

 

What You’ll Be Doing

• Acting as Asset Lead on major projects (typically £20m–£150m in value).

• Defining scope and managing delivery of key technical work packages.

• Establishing effective resourcing plans with regional teams and GPSF partners.

• Supporting project managers in shaping asset scope and operational requirements.

• Reviewing and resolving technical issues impacting project delivery.

• Contributing to GPSF management, improving consultancy services and information flow.

• Developing and sharing technical best practices across ABP.

• Proactively identifying risks and opportunities to maximise project outcome

 

About You

 

We’re seeking someone with:

 

Essential

• Proven track record of technical project delivery, with a passion for optimising value.

• Collaborative with demonstrable experience of team leadership and development

• Hands-on, results-driven approach with focus on critical deliverables.

• Strong stakeholder engagement skills – able to understand and balance multiple drivers of project success.

• Assertive and confident, able to challenge internal stakeholders constructively.

• Ability to work effectively in a lean client environment.

• Experience with projects in ports, marine, or supply chain-related industrial settings.

 

Desirable

• Experience delivering capital infrastructure projects over £20m.

• Previous client-side experience.
