Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The role
The Production Charge Up crew, under the guidance of the Underground Supervisor, is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Charge-Up machine in our underground operations. Your duties will include the precise and secure loading of explosives into production drives and stope holes, ensuring a seamless and safe mining process that contributes to the overall success of our operations
Key responsibilities
The responsibilities outlined are indicative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not exhaustive.
Your tasks will include loading explosives into designated production areas, ensuring adherence to specifications and planned designs.
You will coordinate charging and firing requirements with the Underground Supervisor, maintain accurate and up-to-date records of charging activities, and handle, store, and transport explosives according to safety regulations.
Additionally, you will follow established safety standards before, during, and after charging operations, conduct pre-start checks of Charge-Up machines to ensure they are functioning properly, and perform regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols
About you
- Significant experience in a similar underground role, especially in charge-up operations, is essential.
- Proficiency in operating Charge-Up machines and Integrated Tool Carriers is required, demonstrating efficiency and skill in handling these tools.
- A solid understanding of various ground support techniques and fundamental ground support theory is necessary to ensure effective and safe operations.
- Experience with Hypercharge and Emulsion is highly desirable.
- Possession of a Shotfirers Licence and a Dangerous Goods Security Card is highly regarded
Working conditions
This position follows a 14:14 roster with FIFO options available from Perth, Darwin, Alice Springs, or Brisbane.
The successful candidate will receive a competitive remuneration package, which includes performance incentives, allowances, and generous leave entitlements
