Job Description:
The Middle School Math Teaching Assistant supports classroom instruction and student learning in mathematics for grades 7–8. The Teaching Assistant works under the supervision of the math teacher to reinforce instruction, provide individualized support to students, and ensure a safe and productive classroom environment.
Reports to: Middle School Principal
Location: Warren Campus
Work Schedule: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
Support the implementation of the math curriculum aligned to Rhode Island and national standards through grade 8.
Manage classroom routines and support positive behavior to maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students after the math teacher has delivered instruction, reinforcing skills and concepts as needed.
Monitor student understanding and progress, offering feedback to the math teacher on areas where students need additional support.
Assist the teacher with preparation of instructional materials, classroom organization, and technology as directed.
Supervise students during transitions, peer-assisted learning, or independent work.
Complete additional duties assigned by the math teacher or school administration to support the learning environment.
Qualifications:
High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Meet Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) requirements for teacher assistants or certified teachers as documented here.
Proficiency in mathematics standards through grade 8.
Experience working with middle school students preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students.
Commitment to educational equity and experience working with diverse student populations, particularly students of color, multilingual learners, and students with diverse learning needs
