Biochemistry Research Scientist – Discovery Biochemistry (W/M/D) 

Type: Full-Time, on-site, permanent

We are seeking a passionate and skilled biochemist to join our Drug Discovery Biochemistry team, with the aim of enabling the identification and validation of new fungal targets and the identification of chemical starting points from the target-based approach as well as flexible delivery of relevant data to understand target engagement. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work as an enthusiastic researcher in a dynamic and scientifically exciting global network covering agro and pharma, investigating novel targets for fungicidal using in-vitro and in-vivo techniques  

  • Utilize state of the art biochemistry techniques such as protein expression and purification, enzyme kinetics, and design & develop biochemical assays to characterize and validate novel modes of action 

  • Drive a digital way of working and in-depth analysis and assessment of results, including application of bioinformatics, as well as statistical methods to implement data-driven decision making in pipeline 

  • Generate, analyze data and interpret biochemical results to coordinate and evaluate the scientific progression of scientific project(s) in fast decision and action cycles 

  • Join an empowered team of biochemists/molecular biologists, closely interacting with other scientific disciplines including chemists, biochemists, biologists and data scientists, in a global R&D organization 

  • Develop yourself, your team members and peers via continuous learning, constructive feedback and guidance towards flexible delivery of relevant data to understand target engagement and project progress 

  • Sourcing, coordinating and steering external resources in all fields of biochemical-related work areas for constant innovation of biochemical toolbox​ 

  • The incumbent receives statutory obligations with this position description. These include compliance with all relevant QHSE guidelines, occupational health and safety as well as environmental protection obligations. Provided these duties are not to be executed in person, parts of these duties can be delegated further. 

 
 

Qualifications: 

  • International scientific education in biochemistry or related areas (Ms or PhD) and 2-3 years experience in managing a field of research and/or laboratory in an industrial company or academic field 

  • Knowledge in structural biology / molecular modelling is a must 

  • Very good knowledge in molecular and/or cellular biology including omics and/or phenotyping technologies, particularly applied to fungi​ is a plus 

  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques including protein expression, protein purification, assay development. Experience in working with membrane proteins is a strong advantage. 

  • Passionate about working in multidisciplinary teams. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as intercultural knowledge and understanding. 

  • You are eager to learn, able to solve problems and structure complex tasks. You can inspire and motivate colleagues with a profound sense of accountability. You can be bold and embrace change. 

  • Proficiency in business English is required, knowledge of French (written and verbal) is appreciated.
