Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Regional Manager for our Asset Integrity Department for our Midwest North Region (Greater Chicago and Great Lakes Area). The ideal candidate should be local to our Hammond, IN office.
Orbital’s Asset Integrity Services are designed to proactively maintain the integrity of structures and equipment throughout our clients’ facilities. This position will report to the Vice President of Asset Integrity and will entail the direct supervision of a team of project managers, field engineers and inspectors, and report writers. The position requires project and resource management experience in a consulting environment, and well-rounded expertise in heavy industrial engineering projects in the steel, manufacturing, petrochemical, chemical, mining, materials processing, and power generation industries.
The position requires the Regional Manager to perform in varying roles related to management, project management, technical support, and customer relationship development. The ideal candidate will be a high-performing, critical-thinking, analytical, and experienced self-starter with excellent leadership skills, written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Develop and maintain key client relationships.
- Hire staff, establish individual goals and expectations, and conduct performance reviews. Direct, develop, supervise, and provide technical guidance to all direct reports.
- Prepare inspection plans, proposals, and project estimates for new projects.
- Handle and schedule daily workforce scheduling and staffing utilization.
- Coordinate and track fieldwork with client contacts and report writing.
- Coordinate and ensure proper tracking of Orbital-owned and leased equipment.
- Track projects to ensure schedules and budgets are maintained.
- Manage the logistics of equipment required for each project.
- Resolve minor customer and internal employee issues.
- Ensure all operational and project activities are completed in accordance with Orbital’s Project Management System through implementation and enforcement of policies and practices.
- Some field work and business development travel will be required from time to time.
- Work with the executive team in developing goals and tactical sales plans to help grow the asset integrity team.
- Work at elevated or in tight, confined space-type areas. Use of negative pressure, air filtering/purifying respiratory protection may be required.
- Various other managerial activities and responsibilities
Minimum Requirements
- Five years or more of experience in management, inspection, engineering, and construction.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, project management, or related field.
- Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Hammond, IN.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively organize multiple assignments, complex assignments, and competing priorities to produce quality reports and results.
- Computer proficiency including general office products, design, and business enterprise software.
- Reasoning skills and ability to solve practical problems.
- Ability to read and understand engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Ability to lead staff, deliver assignments, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
- Ability to travel to our client facilities to scope out new projects or support fieldwork when additional manpower is required.
- Ability to perform field inspections at higher elevations and confined spaces.
- Must have dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license and insurance.
- Must be able to pass a fit-for-duty test.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates with an Engineering Degree.
- Project Management Training and/or PMP.
- Preferences given to individuals with exposure to heavy industrial environments and marketplaces.
- TWIC card
- Understanding of codes including IBC, AISC, ASCE, ASME, and API.
