The Lead 3D/Web Software Engineer will have expertise in 3D computer graphics, JavaScript development, and Three.js to lead the development of interactive, vehicle customization technologies. This role will act as a technical lead to a talented team of engineers building advanced tools that allow customers to visualize and personalize their vehicles in real time, encouraging deeper engagement and driving adoption of accessories.  The lead will serve as both a technical expert and team leader, ensuring the delivery of scalable, high-quality solutions while fostering innovation and collaboration.

CORE FUNCTIONS

Technical Leadership

  • Lead the design and development of a 3D visualization tool that allows users to configure their vehicle with accessories.
  • Architect and maintain scalable, performant solutions using JavaScript, Three.js, WebGL, and React.
  • Collaborate with design and engineering stakeholders to ensure technical feasibility and user experience alignment.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and technical documentation.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and career development.
  • Drive sprint planning, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving sessions.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and accountability within the team.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional partners (design, product, engineering) to ensure project milestones are achieved.

Innovation & Emerging Technology

  • Research and integrate cutting-edge 3D computer graphics technologies to continuously elevate the platform.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends in interactive vehicle visualization, simulation, and digital experience.

Quality & Performance

  • Oversee rigorous testing and validation processes to ensure high performance across platforms and devices.
  • Optimize rendering pipelines for speed, accuracy, and visual fidelity.
  • Ensure solutions are reliable, maintainable, and scalable.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience and 2+ years in a lead role.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and experience with Three.js.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams in building interactive 3D applications.
  • Strong understanding of 3D computer graphics with a focus in rendering and asset optimization pipelines.
  • Familiarity with CAD integration, parametric modeling, or product visualization systems.
  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks (React).

Travel

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead: working team member who coordinates, supports, trains, and is a knowledge resource for other team members. No direct reports or supervisory responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer (up to 8+ hours per day).  Regular use of hands, fingers, and wrists for typing, coding, mouse navigation, and manipulation of digital 3D models. Occasional need to lift and carry items such as laptops, monitors, or peripheral equipment (generally under 25 lbs).  Minimal physical exertion is required; role is primarily sedentary.

Visual Acuity

Extended focus on computer monitors and high-resolution displays for coding, debugging, and reviewing 3D models. Ability to distinguish fine detail, color variations, shading, and depth perception in digital environments to ensure modeling accuracy. Periodic adjustments between screen-based work and in-person collaboration (whiteboards, diagrams, or physical product references).

Working Conditions

Office-based, hybrid, or remote setting with typical business hours, though flexibility may be required to meet project deadlines.  May involve occasional visits to manufacturing facilities, photo/visual studios, or vehicle labs for product fit validation, accessory visualization, or collaboration with industrial design teams.
