Our MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Technologists use exceptional communication skills to connect with patients, explain procedures and put patients at ease. They show their technical competence by effectively interpreting physician orders/instructions and selecting appropriate software options and imaging parameters to produce the highest-quality MRI images/studies possible, enabling physicians to diagnose with pinpoint accuracy and treat with confidence.
This Full-Time (40 hours/week), MRI Lead Technologist - Evening Shift is located at Huntington-Hill Imaging Center in Pasadena (Fair Oaks)!- 4 weekdays from 1:45pm - 10:15pm (variable)
- 1 weekend day from 10:15am-6:15pm
What You Will Do:
Lead Duties:
- Assists with managing the MRI department in accordance with policies and procedures set by California Medical Business Services (CMBS) in conjunction with appropriated state and federal regulations.
- Assists management with establishing and implementing departmental policies and procedures with the center manager, supervisor, and/or radiologist. Makes recommendations for improvements. Follows company policies and guidelines.
- Maintains and implements quality and safety protocols regarding patient care, exam procedures and equipment throughout the department. Makes recommendations for improvement. Ensures that all staff follow the quality and safety guidelines for the department.
- Assists with creating and updating protocols per radiologist instructions alongside the MRI Supervisor/ Clinical Specialist.
- Trains MRI Technologists on procedures/ changes as directed by MRI Supervisor/ Manager/ Clinical Specialist/ radiologist.
- Trains and supervises students rotating from accredited schools (usually one student per year).
- Assists and guides MRI department employees with emergencies during the shift.
- Participates in selecting, hiring and interviewing of MRI technologists. Provides new-hire orientation and initial training for new technologists as well as ongoing in-service training for all department staff as deemed appropriate by regular analyses.
- Assigns work and supervises daily operations of MRI areas. Acts as a resource for specialized or complicated procedures. Reviews schedules for complicated cases and reviews them with the radiologist.
- Assist with creating monthly department schedule, which may involve rotation of staff to multiple facilities.
- Responsible for staffing the MRI department adequately and encourages technologists efficiency and productivity.
- Assist with employee timesheets when needed.
- Ensures that MRI technologists complete required training courses.
- Responsible for maintaining technologists licensing and CME documentation and report provided copies to Imaging Center Manager.
- Assist with performance evaluations as well as written and verbal counseling of MRI technologists. When necessary, recommends disciplinary action with final approval at level of the Supervisor, Manager, Clinical Operations Director and Human Resources Director.
- Ensures that equipment is maintained and operating properly. Orders supplies for the department. Documents malfunctions; schedules preventative maintenance, service, and annual physicist testing for the equipment as appropriate.
- Responsible for ACR accreditation for department (if applicable).
- Conducts safety trainings for department meetings (as requested).
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations as required.
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Schedules and coordinates tests, records test results, and prepares and maintains operational logs.
- Assists with training students from MRI technologist training schools/programs.
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
- May be assigned to work in MRI departments for other company Imaging Centers, as needed.
- Must exercise good and sound judgment and plan and accomplish goals.
- Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
- Works closely with Radiologist and referring physicians.
- Keeps Supervisor, Imaging Center Manager and Clinical Operations Director abreast of department potential issues or escalated issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager/ Clinical Operations Director.
- Ensure that company policies and procedures are followed.
Technologist Duties:
- Performs magnetic resonance (MR) imaging examinations by operating hardware with specific software protocols, optimizing the technical parameters in order to maximize MR image quality and acquires images that can be utilized by physicians in order to diagnose diseases.
- Explains to patients the magnetic resonance imaging procedures, addresses patient concerns, exhibits high degree of tact, courtesy & poise when interacting w/ patients, staff & visitors.
- Explains the exam/procedure to the patient in order to solicit cooperation & obtain patient understanding.
- Assesses the patient's history & overall condition & makes the necessary modifications in technique and/or positioning to compensate for pathology or other considerations.
- Ensures patient & staff safety which includes explaining safety protocol, requesting removal of hazardous metal objects, and, alerting staff the danger of carrying metal around the magnet.
- Selects appropriate coil for requested exam & positions coil (i.e., head coil or knee coil) to demonstrate area of interest & to obtain maximum transmit & receive signal, selects monitoring devices & support equipment as required by patient condition.
- Performs all routine aspects of MRI procedures, including but not limited to QC, start-up procedures, signal-to-noise test scans, program/sequence selection, contrast injection (including those with an I.V. power injector) & image processing.
- Obtains optimum MRI imaging throughout the entire region of interest by selecting & applying imaging parameters such as but not limited to: field of view, number of slices, slice thickness, number of excitations (acquisitions), repetition time, echo time, phase direction, frequency direction, matrix & gap between slices .
- Apply and perform post-processing for sequences including, but not limited to MRCP, MRA, CSF Flow & cardiac imaging exams.
- Prepares & administers the appropriate oral, intestinal & I.V. contrast media or as appropriate, assists the radiologist with I.V. or I.A. contrast administration.
- Operates auxiliary imaging equipment including, but not limited to PACS, RIS, Power Injector.
- Ensures that correct & required patient identification information including "left" or "right" marker appears on all images.
- Identify and report image quality artifacts and errors in order to assist the engineer in resolving the problem.
- Stock supplies to include, but not limited to linens, gowns, contrast and IV supplies on a daily basis or as needed.
- May perform other duties as required or assigned according to the needs of the department.
What You Will Bring:
- Minimum of 1 years of lead or supervisory experience or equivalent.
- At least three years of Magnetic Resonance Imaging experience.
- Advanced computer skills a plus such as knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
- Candidate must have a strong work-ethic, and must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Dependability and provision of excellence in customer service to our physicians and patient care is a must.
- Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
- Possess current and valid Magnetic Resonance Imaging Certification thru ARRT or ARMRIT. It is preferred for the applicant to also have a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) certificate, Fluoroscopy Permit issued by the State of California Department of Public Health, and Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Registered Radiologic Technologist
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and to utilize the theories, principles, practices and techniques of radiologic technology.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and utilize the principles, theories, practices, and techniques of basic and advanced magnetic resonance imaging including clinical exams, physics, MRI safety, cross-sectional anatomy and patient care.
- Must have a valid California Driver’s License.
- Must be CPR certified.
- Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds
- Basic understanding of insurance, both Commercial and Managed Care.
- Familiarity with ACR guidelines.
- Familiarity with PACS systems – DR Systems preferred.
What Your Work Environment Will Be Like:
- Environment: Work is performed primarily in the MRI area with extensive contact with individuals and frequent interruptions.
- Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an imaging center setting; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight. This position requires the incumbent to experience periods of prolonged standing, walking, carrying, climbing, reaching and lifting (10 pounds for less than 10% of work-shift time; 25 pounds for less than 10% of work-shift time). Regularly required to stand for long periods of time; will sit 50-75% of their work-shift time; will stand for 25-50% of their work-shift time; will walk for approximately 25% of the work-shift time; must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel approximately 90% of work-shift time; must be able to reach with hands and arms approximately 20-50% of work-shift time; must be able to talk or hear and verbally communicate to exchange information approximately 90-100% of work-shift time. Must be able to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type, operate a calculator, telephone, copier and such other office equipment as necessary. Will travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, as needed.
- Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens. Must have ability to ability to see color and to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. The lights in the office include fluorescent lighting.
- Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
