PO5: Starting salary £54,360 per annum incl LW

About the Team:

The Electoral services team is responsible for managing and administering all aspects of local and national elections and referendums. Their primary duties include maintaining the register of electors, which is the official list of people eligible to vote. They handle voter registration applications, conduct an annual canvass to keep the register up-to-date, and manage special voter categories like postal and proxy voting.

Beyond voter registration, the team organises the logistics of an election. This involves finding and preparing polling places, recruiting and training staff to work at polling stations and the vote count, and preparing all necessary materials like ballot papers and polling cards. They also manage the nomination process for candidates and handle the secure collection and counting of votes on election night, ensuring the entire process is carried out in a transparent and lawful manner.

About the Role:

The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, management, coordination, and financial control of the portfolio of projects within Electoral Services. The nature of the role is such that the project manager is expected to work flexibly and map and track dependencies and inter-dependencies across the portfolio and providing robust assurance around programme delivery.

They are also expected to develop and create innovative solutions to support the team by developing the capacity and available resources to deliver the challenging programme.

To be considered for interview, your CV and supporting statement will clearly evidence:

  • Substantial knowledge of programme and project management methodologies, including risks, issues, and benefits management
  • A team player that can build constructive and robust relationships across the Council and wider partnerships to ensure objectives are delivered successfully, and that interdependencies are understood, mitigated or managed effectively.
  • Someone who can work flexibly and ensure programme delivery as well as robust project management. 
  • Proven experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously to deliver high quality outputs, on time, and to budget against agreed change objectives.
