The opportunity
Based at the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre in Perth, you will play a key role in delivering high-performance networking solutions that power Australian science. Reporting to the Head of Scientific Platforms, the Senior Network Engineer supports campus switching, wireless, VPN and high-capacity research networking.
This role is suited to an experienced and analytical professional with strong enterprise networking expertise. You’ll design, implement, and maintain critical infrastructure that underpins one of Australia’s leading supercomputing facilities, while contributing to national and international research outcomes.
Your high-level duties will include:
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining Pawsey’s enterprise-scale network infrastructure.
- Providing technical advice, specifications, and architectural documentation for networking projects.
- Liaising with clients, partners, and vendors to deliver secure, reliable, and innovative solutions.
- Staying across emerging technologies to ensure Pawsey remains at the forefront of global networking capability.
- Documenting systems, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with security standards.

As the successful candidate, you will bring:
Essential criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in IT or a related discipline, or equivalent enterprise-level experience.
- Proven ability to design, configure, and administer enterprise networking (LAN, WAN, wireless, firewalls, and data centre).
- Hands-on experience with technologies such as Aruba wireless, Cisco/Arista networking, Cisco ACI, Palo Alto firewalls, Citrix ADC, and fibre optic networking.
- Experience documenting networks, firewall rules, and connected systems.
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed team.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, troubleshoot complex problems, and deliver reliable solutions in a high-performance environment.
Desirable
- Cyber Security knowledge and its application to enterprise/research networks.
- Certifications in networking, routing & switching, or wireless.
- Scripting/automation experience in enterprise networking contexts.
