St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking a highly motivated Image Analyst and Microscopist to join our cutting-edge Microscopy Core Facility in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology. This is a full-time position available at either the Lead Researcher or Associate Scientist level, depending on experience.
The role will focus on helping users with advanced image analysis and protocol development for high-content microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, and tissue imaging. This is an outstanding opportunity to apply your expertise in advanced imaging, high-content microscopy, and computational analysis to support groundbreaking biomedical research. You will join a close-knit team of specialists including an imaging expert, a data analyst/Python programmer, and the core director—working together to deliver innovative solutions for St. Jude scientists.
What You’ll Do
Provide expert support for users, developing advanced imaging and analysis workflows across platforms such as high-content microscopy, super-resolution imaging, and tissue imaging.
Design and implement rigorous, reproducible image analysis pipelines using open-source tools (Fiji, napari, ilastik, CellProfiler, custom Python notebooks) and commercial solutions (Imaris, Huygens Professional, LAS X, NIS Elements, Zen Blue/Black, MATLAB).
Partner with the core director and imaging team to ensure high-quality user assistance and project documentation.
Write user guides, protocols, and workflow documentation to enhance training and reproducibility across projects.
Collaborate with Research Information Services to leverage CPU and GPU cluster computing resources for large-scale image analysis.
Train and mentor users on a variety of microscopy modalities, including confocal, STED, SIM, FLIM, TIRF, STORM, HCA, and holotomography.
Other responsibilities:
Participate in the teaching and training of staff and students on image analysis techniques through workshops and 1-to-1 training.
Stay at the forefront of microscopy and analysis by developing new protocols and workflows ahead of emerging needs.
Interact regularly with vendors, technical specialists, and service engineers to maintain robust instrumentation.

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required
Minimum Experience
Associate Scientist Level:
7 + years of research experience is required
5 + years of research experience is required with a Master’s degree
2 + years of research experience is required with a PHD
Experience leading and supporting research experiments preferred
Some experience leading lab and scientific project coordination, maintenance, and other research support activities preferred
Experience in light microscopy (from theoretical knowledge of super-resolution modalities to experiment design) preferred.
Demonstrated experience in data analysis of large and/or complex datasets
Lead Researcher Level:
5+ years of research experience is required
3+ years of experience is required with a Master’s degree
No prior experience required with a PHD
Strong knowledge and experience in understanding and application of underlying principles related to techniques being performed
Experience in light microscopy (from theoretical knowledge of super-resolution modalities to experiment design) preferred.
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $65,520 - $114,400 per year for the role of Lead Researcher/Associate Scientist- Image Analyst and Microscopist.Explore our exceptional benefits!
