Job Description

We’re seeking the right team member who can perform fiberglass finishing work to our premium offshore fishing boats. Are you experienced with power tools, have fiberglass finishing experience and ready to work together as a team while adhering to a production schedule?

This team member works to finish imperfections or defects in fiberglass hulls, decks and small parts by identifying defects in the fiberglass. The team member finishes gelcoat blemishes and defects with buffers, DA sanders, spray guns, finishing spray and wet/dry sanding.

 Responsibilities:

  • Apply coatings, sealants, and finishes to boat surfaces according to specifications and industry standards.
  • Sand, polish, and buff boat surfaces to achieve smooth and flawless finishes.
  • Repair imperfections in boat surfaces, such as scratches, dents, and blemishes.
  • Mask and tape off areas to protect them from overspray and ensure clean lines and edges.
  • Inspect finished boats for quality assurance, identifying any defects or areas requiring further attention.
  • Collaborate with other team members, including boat builders, designers, and supervisors, to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of projects.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage and handling of tools and materials.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Ability to grind, sand, clean, or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for final finishing and assembly, using hand tools and power tools
  • Proven experience as a Boat Building Finisher or similar role in the marine industry (preferred)
  • Proficiency in applying various coatings, sealants, and finishes to different boat surfaces.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to apply compounds and chemicals to repair surfaces
  • Ability to select abrasives, according to materials, sizes and shapes of work pieces 
  • Ability and experience in painting repaired surfaces
  • Experience in verifying quality of finished work pieces through inspection
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures related to boat building and finishing.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and technologies in boat finishing.
  • This role requires basic understanding of and ability to use computers/tablets, etc.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements include eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, protective suits, dusts masks and respirators.
  • The employee is regularly required to be on their feet; occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Constant use of hands/hand tools for assembly, fine manipulation, inspecting parts, and/or machine operating.   The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • This employee is regularly expected to utilize machinery and equipment which causes consistent vibration and high impact motions 
  • Employees must be able to work a 10-hour shift or more in one workday, including planned and unplanned overtime.
  • Exhibits ability to work cautiously but efficiently in potentially hazardous conditions.
  • This role requires annual HAZWASTE training  

 Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.  

The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud and is non-climate controlled.
