SCOPE OF WORK:
This position functions within a collaborative, multidisciplinary early childhood team to support children from birth to age five with identified or suspected special needs. The scope includes working in classroom, home-based, and community settings, and involves coordination with families, educators, and specialists to ensure children receive appropriate developmental support services.
SUPERVISION: This position is supervised by the Early Childhood Tracking Director, who will provide guidance, support, and complete performance evaluations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide assistance to the Special Education Professional in identifying children who require Special Education, referral, multi-disciplinary team review, parent and staff consultation, IEP/IFSP Development, inclusion model services, service delivery and updating, placement and other required services for eligible children.
- At the direction of the Speech Therapist/Preschool Special Education Teacher, provide assisting instructional services for remediating identified Special Needs through use of “inclusion” model or other appropriate delivery system consultation with regular program home based services also required.
- Assist the Special Needs Coordinator in assuring that opportunities for parents are made consistently available in IE/IFSP development, implementation, evaluation, and regular updating are an integral part of the delivery of services to special needs children and their families.
- Conduct communication regarding Infant/Toddler-Preschool/Speech Language/Special Education program and other children in accordance with the Privacy Act, Confidentiality Act, and other regulatory provisions.
- Assist the Center Teachers and families in maintaining a learning climate and approach which promotes a safe and supportive learning environment for exceptional education students.
- Assist the Special Needs Coordinator/Special Educator in maintaining Exceptional Education Program data and information in a consistent and accurate manner, as is appropriate and required for each individual student.
- Conduct duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Policies and Procedures; ensure that individual endeavors are complimentary to the standards of the teaching profession and to the nature of the respected individuals, including demonstration of positive behavior in the community as well as in the school environment.
- Completes other duties as assigned that fall under the scope of the Early Childhood Tracking program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) year degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services, Native American Studies, or related field preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience working in early childhood programs, social services, special education, family support services, or related field preferred.
- Must have desire to work with infants, toddlers and preschool children with a variety of special needs and with adults.
- Demonstrated competency in providing assistance to Special Needs Coordinator is assessment, evaluation, PL94-141, Multi-disciplinary team purposes and functions, referral, knowledge of supportive resources, teaching and learning strategies, executional education instruction and curriculum planning IEP/EFSP development and evaluation and other pertinent skills required.
- Applicants meeting position requirements will be interviewed by the Program Director.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must complete a physical examination, TB test and hepatitis shot test within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Applicant must sign the necessary paperwork to permit a background check at the Tribal and State level.
- The applicant must never have been convicted of Child Abuse/Neglect or any violent crimes.
- Must follow program policies on time and attendance.
- Must complete CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of hire.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet insurability requirements.
- Must have dependable transportation to travel to the various centers and communities in the day and evening.
- Must sign confidentiality agreement.
