Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Materials Processing: Assist senior engineers and technicians with CVD diamond fabrication experiments to optimize process parameters and throughput.
- Material Characterization: Utilize various analytical techniques to evaluate the quality of polished diamonds:
- Interferometry to characterize flatness and roughness.
- Microscope analysis to characterize surface defects.
- XRD analysis for grain orientation.
- Data Analysis: Record and analyze experimental data to correlate process parameters to surface quality. Generate data sheets and assist with statistical classification of results.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous laboratory records, document procedures, and prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings to the team and management.
- Process Improvement: Participate in projects aimed at improving the efficiency, yield, and quality of diamond fabrication processes.
- Safety and Maintenance: Ensure strict adherence to health and safety policies within the laboratory environment. Assist with the maintenance and calibration of analytical and process equipment.
Education & Experience
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in manufacturing and/or laboratory work.
Skills
- Strong academic performance.
- Demonstrated experience with laboratory equipment, experimental procedures, and data analysis.
- Familiarity with materials characterization techniques (e.g., Raman, PL, XRD) is preferred but not required.
- A "hands-on" mindset and a strong aptitude for problem-solving in a technical, data-driven environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong interpersonal, teaming, and problem-solving skills.
- Work effectively with other members of Coherent Corp.
Working Conditions
- Light manufacturing and laboratory environment.
Physical Requirements
- Light lifting, less than 25 pounds.
- Extended periods of sitting and standing while performing experiments and analyzing data.
Safety Requirements
- Must use all PPE required in the manufacturing and laboratory areas. PPE will be provided by Coherent Corp.
