Now Hiring Part Time School Bus Drivers for Greater Chicago, IL School Districts
As a First Student Part Time School Bus Driver you will play a vital role in your community and the lives of the students you transport. You will be there at the start of the students’ day with before-school pickup and at the end with an afternoon shift to bring students safely back home.
No experience as a bus driver is required! We’re proud to train you with our industry-leading technology to help you succeed.
Your day will include:
- A split shift, which means an early morning before-school pickup and an after-school drop-off with a few free hours in between
- A guaranteed shift of 4-6 hours per school day depending on location, no working nights or weekends unless you want to
- Additional hours gained through trips and charters when available
School Bus Driver benefits:
- $23 / hour- $30 / hour starting wage, based on school bus driver experience and location. Training rate at state minimum wage.
- $5,000 sign on bonus for fully licensed drivers if training is completed within 5 days*
- $3,000 sign on bonus for fully licensed drivers if training is completed in more than 5 days**

Great School Bus Drivers often bring skills such as:
- Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (or willingness to obtain)

This position is subject to DOT drug testing as a safety-sensitive employee. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
*Conditions apply; see locations for details. Bonus offer expires 9/30/25. $5,000 bonus paid in 2 parts. $2,500 if paid training is completed after 5 consecutive working days and $2,500 after 30 working days of revenue service
**Must apply by 9/30/25 to be eligible for sign on bonus. $3,000 bonus paid in 2 parts if training is not completed within 5 consecutive working days. $1,500 paid after training is completed and $1,500 paid on 12/1/25
Driver is considered fully licensed if they have a valid CDL B with P, S, and SBP endorsements
