The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, within the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences at Baylor University, invites applications and nominations for a Lecturer in American Sign Language to join our dynamic and collaborative team. This appointment is a renewable full-time, benefits-eligible, teaching-focused position with a 6-year promotion path to Senior Lecturer for successful candidates and a 12-year promotion path to Teaching Professor for highly successful candidates. The primary responsibilities of this position will be teaching courses focused on the use, comprehension, and function of American Sign Language (ASL). Lecturers may also be asked to participate in collaborative research, and engage in departmental, university, and professional service. Application reviews will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Academic rank for this position will be at the Lecturer level, commensurate with experience and credentials.

About the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers a residential bachelor’s in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, an ASL minor program, residential and online master’s in Speech-Language Pathology, and PhD degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders; the program is CAA certified. Currently, the program is comprised of approximately 300 undergraduate students, 100 residential graduate students, nearly 350 online graduate students, and seven PhD students.

  • A Master’s or doctoral degree in the field of ASL, Deaf Studies, or a related field (required)
  • Minimum of five years of college-level teaching experience
  • 4.0 or better on the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI)
  • American Sign Language Teacher Association (ASLTA) certification (preferred)
  • Evidence of an active Christian or Jewish faith
