Summary: The Woonsocket Learning Community provides all learners a safe and rigorous learning experience that embraces diversity, culture, and individuality to create productive members of our global community—an individual who supports interdependent student-centered classrooms that promote discourse and collaboration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan Curriculum and Instruction
Draws on content standards from the relevant curriculum frameworks to plan sequential units of study, individual lessons, and learning activities that make learning cumulative and advance students' knowledge of the subject matter.
Draws on results of formal and informal assessments as well as knowledge of human development to identify teaching strategies and learning activities appropriate to the specific discipline, age, level of English language proficiency, and range of cognitive levels being taught.
Provides differentiated learning experiences that enable all students to make progress.
Design units of instruction that include the criteria established by the district.
Develops well-structured lessons with challenging, measurable objectives and appropriate student engagement strategies.
Designs and administers a variety of informal and formal assessments to measure each student’s growth toward local/state standards.
Organizes and analyzes results from various assessments to determine progress, adjust practice, and implement targeted interventions.
Provides regular, specific feedback to students and their families on student performance, including suggestions on how to improve it.
Welcomes and encourages every family to become active participants in the classroom and school community.
Utilizes two-way communication with families regarding student performance and responds promptly and thoughtfully to messages from families.
Collaborates with colleagues to support improved student learning.
Communicates and consistently enforces specific standards for student work, effort, and behavior.
Utilizes rituals and routines that foster and sustain a safe learning environment.
Consistently uses practices that are likely to enable students to demonstrate respect for differences.
Regularly reflects on their practice, individually and with colleagues.
Selects and requests books, supplies, and technologies to support instruction.
Consistently seeks out and applies ideas for improving practice from supervisors, colleagues, and professional developmental activities to gain expertise.
Develops strategies, both individually and in collaboration with colleagues, that contribute to the learning and productive behavior of all students.
Performs reasonable professional tasks or duties as may be requested by the Principal.
Required Qualifications:
Hold a valid Rhode Island Teacher Certification Elementary (1-6) or Early Childhood (PreK - 3)
Valid Rhode Island All Grades ESL Certification or the ability to obtain an emergency certification
Must have or been able to complete the Right to Read Proficiency certificate
