EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
Permanent Part Time

THE POSITION:
To provide balanced and nutritional meals for the children attending the centre, ensuring children's dietary and cultural needs are met and ensuring health, hygiene and safety standards are implemented on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and prepare a nutritionally appropriate menu for children attending the centre, in consultation with the Service Coordinator, ensuring each child's growth and development needs are met and complies with cultural, religious and health requirements.
  • Maintain a high standard of food hygiene, safety and cleanliness in accordance with statutory requirements 
  • Oversee and maintain the Food Safety Program for the centre.
  • Provide innovation and creativity in developing contemporary menus for the centre 
  • To work with team members to ensure that children are offered food and beverages on a regular basis and ensure that access to safe drinking water is provided throughout the day.
  • Manage stock ordering within the centre's budget and stock control, including reconciliation of all deliveries.
  • Communicate information about the menu with families and other stakeholders using a variety of methods on a weekly basis.
  • To inform the Coordinator of cooking equipment replacement and maintenance as required 
  • Keep all wastage to a minimum, including water, electricity, fuel and consumables.
  • To keep records of all orders and deliveries and reconcile invoices, receipts and credit card statements. 
  • Maintain collaborative and positive relationships with children, families and other team members.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training. 
  • To observe AlburyCity’s commitment to being a child safe organisation, creating safe environments that minimise the risk of harm with a zero tolerance for child abuse, violence and neglect.
  • Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS. 
  • Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day-to-day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity's Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity's Code of Conduct.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Based on 38 hours per week, working a minimum 30 hours across a 5-day spread, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 2pm, hours can be negotiable.
  • Additional hours up to 38 hours per week may be worked by agreement, and this will be paid at the ordinary rate of pay. 
  • On occasions there will be a requirement to attend meetings and events outside of normal business hours. 
  • This position requires you to wear a compulsory uniform as per AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely 
  • This position involves working both indoor and outdoor, along with computer work. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the workday - depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. Appropriate WHS standards will be applied for all manual handing activity. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position. 
  • Dependent on qualifications this position may assist in the provision of care for children to meet staff ratio requirements. 
  • This position requires evidence of a current NSW Working with Children Clearance
  • This position requires evidence of vaccination against the following infectious diseases: 
    • Hepatitis A
    • Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
    • Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR)
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox) 
  • This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing.
  • This position is located at Banjora Children's Centre, Cardo Drive, Springdale Heights with occasional/frequent visits to external sites/depots and AlburyCity Administration Building as required. 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Food Handling Supervisors Certificate 
  • Certificate level qualifications in Hospitality or relevant equivalent work experience
  • NSW Working With Children Clearance

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

  • Class C (standard) Driver's Licence 
  • Certificate III Early Childhood Education and Care 

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in the hospitality or childcare industries 
  • Experience working with young children 

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Demonstrate ability to plan menus and cook meals which are based on an understanding of the nutritional needs of children 
  • Ability to reconcile receipts and credit card statements 
  • Ability to order stock and liaise with suppliers 
  • An understanding of WH&S principles 
  • Understanding of Food Safety requirements and ability to apply these within the service.
  • Knowledge of cleaning practices 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the day to day care of children including hygiene, and health and safety practices and standards
