Main Responsibilities
Legal Advisory / Risk
• Understand the global strategy and value creation levers for the business and reflect them in ING Dublin Branches legal strategy.
• Serve as a trusted business partner who proactively engages management of strategic business issues by overseeing the legal risks.
• Examine legal advice on documentation where the bank is positioned as counter party.
• Review ongoing cases and advice executive management team accordingly.
• Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken.
• Ensure that the functional legal line (regional Legal Head) is promptly and adequately informed about material incidents, litigation and any other legal and regulatory developments. Pro-actively signal local legal trends and developments with a potential cross border impact.
• Provide legal protection and risk management advice to the management team.
• Provide and interpret legal information, conduct training and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to employees.
Policy Development
• Anticipate and proactively develop a strategy to address changes in legal and regulatory requirements and policies (locally).
• Review and advise the management team on legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
• Review and where needed draft contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensure that they comply with all local statutory or legal requirements.
Litigation Management
• Manage, direct, and coordinate litigation matters.
Contract Management
• Assess legal implications that need to be brought to the management’s attention.
• Oversee and represent ING in negotiations with counterparties and business partners as required.
• Review, advise on, draft and/or negotiate documentation which has been negotiated by the deal teams and their appointed external legal advisers, to give internal sign off, by confirming that the documentation accords with the internal policies and procedures, and includes features acceptable to ING.
Corporate Housekeeping
• Ensure ING Dublin meets its corporate legal obligations under all other relevant laws.
Leadership Role
• Provide leadership and ensure efficient and effective management of employees on all legal matters within the branch.
• Be a trusted business partner proactively helping the business to develop.
• Ensure continuous improvement and optimization of the legal support
• Effective management of legal budget.

• Possess advanced problem-solving skills, including ability to see connections, linkages, and interdependencies, to identify complex problems and analyse related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Education and Experience
• A strong educational background, including an Irish Law Degree.
• Extensive experience in Wholesale Banking, funds business and the Financial Services, in Ireland.
• Deep understanding of banking regulation and its applicability to banking operations.
• Providing legal advice and/or litigating in one or more of the following areas: contracts, labour/employment, administrative and banking law, litigation, real estate, the Irish Fund industry and environmental law.

• Ability to effectively interact with colleagues at all levels of seniority.
• Solid experience in negotiating and drafting (complex) commercial contracts
• Solid experience with legal disputes, including litigation and arbitration.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, digital and data driven, dynamic environment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience with, laws dealing with government and/or commercial contract administration, particularly contract negotiation, preparation and administration.
• Demonstrate success in managing and conducting a variety of litigation matters.
