About The Opportunity

  • Senior Legal Counsel 

  • Full-time

  • Ireland or UK based

  • Hybrid-working model with in-office days driven by Legal Team practice and custom.  Dublin/London office available for day-to-day working and meeting colleagues. 

Your Day

You will be responsible for EU and UK product, regulatory and competition legal support across a  broad range of Yahoo products and services.  You will play a key role in the following areas:

  • Providing product review and advice under UK and EU laws on consumer protection, online safety and content regulation, privacy, and intellectual property.  Key areas of responsibility include the EU Digital Services Act, the UK Online Safety Act, the European Electronic Communications Code, and the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, as well as relevant national laws of EU Member States.

  • Working closely with Public Policy colleagues to determine the impact of new and planned laws across EMEA and to provide legal support for Yahoo’s advocacy efforts .

  • Overseeing transparency reporting requirements under EU and UK laws.

  • Liaising with subject matter experts in the global Yahoo legal team where required, including privacy and corporate functions.

  • Supporting the business to mitigate legal risks, to assess and manage regulatory priorities, to ensure compliance with industry standards and self-regulation requirements, and to provide creative problem solving when legal or reputational issues arise.

  • Working on a broad range of competition matters, including engaging in regulatory dialogue on the Digital Markets Act and Digital Markets Competition and Consumers Act, devising competition strategy with business stakeholders, responding to RFIs, working with industry colleagues  on joint initiatives.

About You..

We are looking for an individual who has a passion for digital media, a genuine curiosity for leveraging technology to drive innovation, and is eager to learn about and contribute to Yahoo's fast-paced business growth. A successful candidate needs to demonstrate the following characteristics and experiences:

  • Irish or UK solicitor qualification 

  • 4+ years PQE (as a guide) commercial legal experience at a reputable law firm or in house (preferably in technology/digital media)

  • A versatile lawyer and team player who is able to develop and clearly communicate thoughtful legal  and strategic guidance to stakeholders throughout the company

  • Experience or strong interest in technology and digital media.

  • Very strong analytical, legal writing, and organisational skills

  • Experience of providing legal and regulatory advice relating to product rollouts/updates.

  • Experience and/or strong interest in competition law.

  • Working knowledge of relevant privacy law

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to make sound business and legal decisions under tight deadlines

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects or project components with minimal supervision

  • Ideally experience of working in global/US headquartered/pan-Euro teams

  • Experienced collaborator who can quickly build strong relationships with team members, executives and key stakeholders
