Security Engineer Principal Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Security Engineer with foundational experience in regulated IT environments to help design, implement, and maintain secure and compliant systems across both traditional IT and operational technology (OT) infrastructures. This role is ideal for someone looking to deepen their cybersecurity skill set in a hands-on, cross-functional environment while learning from senior engineering and compliance leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior infrastructure and cybersecurity teams to build secure and compliant architectures in IT and OT domains.
- Participate in system hardening, secure configuration baselines, patching strategies, and network segmentation initiatives.
- Support vulnerability management efforts including scanning, tracking remediation, and reporting.
- Assist with security tool deployment and management (e.g., endpoint protection, SIEM, DLP, firewalls, identity solutions).
- Contribute to incident response activities by maintaining playbooks, assisting with investigations, and gathering evidence.
- Help ensure technical compliance with frameworks such as NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, CMMC, ITAR/EAR, and ISO 27001.
- Perform routine monitoring, access reviews, and control validation across IT/OT systems.
- Maintain documentation of technical security controls, system architectures, and change records.
- Participate in audits, assessments, tabletop exercises, and other compliance events as needed.
Experience and Education Qualifications
Required:
- 2–4 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity, IT, or infrastructure roles.
- Exposure to regulated environments (e.g., DoD, aerospace/defense, manufacturing, energy).
- Familiarity with NIST CSF or NIST 800-171 controls.
- Basic understanding of networking, identity management, endpoint protection, and patching practices.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and eagerness to learn in both IT and OT environments.
- U.S. Person (due to ITAR/EAR compliance).
Preferred:
- Experience with system security tools (e.g., Microsoft Defender, Cisco security suite, vulnerability scanners).
- Familiarity with firewalls, VLANs, and industrial network segmentation.
- Exposure to Microsoft GCC High, Azure, or Active Directory security practices.
- CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or working toward certifications like GICSP, CISSP Associate, or similar.
