The Senior Electrical Engineer applies a working knowledge of engineering fundamentals to the division’s engineering and design activities under the direction of a Principal Engineer, Project Engineer, Staff Engineer, or Project Manager. This role also requires interaction with other Falcon’s personnel—including those in QA, Manufacturing, and Procurement—to provide project-related engineering support. The Senior Electrical Engineer may lead or mentor other engineers, designers, and technicians during various project phases.
This position involves the design, production support, integration, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of ride and show control systems both in the factory and in the field.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
- Independently performs advanced engineering tasks that may involve complex features, conflicting design requirements, unusual materials, and coordination of multiple contributors.
- Exercises excellent technical judgment, demonstrating independent evaluation, creativity, and latitude in decision-making.
- Develops innovative solutions to engineering problems.
- Manages projects of moderate scope.
- Participates in initial equipment conceptual development, carefully balancing product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time constraints.
- Designs new industrial electrical control panels that comply with NFPA 79, NEC, and UL 508A standards, and creates corresponding electrical schematics.
- Architects, writes, and debugs PLC ladder logic with a focus on code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable.
- Develops intuitive and visually clear HMI screens for complex machinery, ensuring sufficient feedback for troubleshooting.
- Manages electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, and installations.
- Selects and sizes electrical and electromechanical components such as servos.
- Establishes test plans and oversees test execution.
- Debugs and optimizes automated processes to maximize reliability and uptime.
- Reviews progress and evaluates results of work performed by self and others.
- Prepares technical reports and presents results to management and clients.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position may include informal supervisory or mentoring responsibilities.
Reporting Relationship:
- Reports to the Electrical and Control Engineering Manager.
- Receives project team technical direction from the Project Engineer and Project Manager.
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (e.g., Controls and Computer Control Systems, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering).
- 8+ years of direct technical experience in the design, assembly, integration, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and programming of large-scale PLC-based control systems.
- Experience in a theme park or attractions environment is a strong plus.
Additional Experience:
- Advanced proficiency in programming industrial equipment, including:
- Ladder logic PLCs (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix) using RSLogix 5000.
- Safety PLCs (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, SmartGuard, GuardLogix).
- Allen-Bradley HMI displays and development software.
- Fieldbus networks (AB DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, and safety-rated fieldbus networks).
- Serial communication (RS-232) between PLCs and instruments.
- Ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems.
- Proficiency in software development from inception to final acceptance testing.
- Strong knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives and Servo Drives, including programming.
- In-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standards.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, or ePlan.
- Familiarity with machine safety standards including EN ISO 13849.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Domestic and international travel may be required.
