Position Summary

The Field Service Manager provides technical leadership to a team of Field Electronic Technicians responsible for supporting electronic control systems, instrumentation, and monitoring equipment used on oilfield service rigs and well sites. This role requires deep technical knowledge of rig electronic systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to guide technicians in resolving complex equipment issues while ensuring reliability and safety in the field.

Job Functions/Duties:

  • Supervise and mentor Field Electronic Technicians with a focus on developing advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Provide direct technical support on electronic systems including PLCs, rig control panels, sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  • Lead root-cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability.
  • Review and validate technician service work, ensuring accuracy in calibration, wiring, and system configuration.
  • Work hands-on in the field when required, supporting complex service calls and acting as the technical escalation point.
  • Develop technical training programs and job aids for field staff to increase competency and reduce downtime.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance schedules, ensuring electronic equipment is calibrated and functioning to OEM and company standards.
  • Maintain and manage specialized test equipment, calibration tools, and electronic spare parts inventories.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify system design improvements based on field performance data.
  • Support HSE standards by ensuring all electronic systems are maintained to operate safely under field conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Instrumentation (or equivalent field experience).
  • 5-8 years of hands-on experience with oilfield electronic control systems, with 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of PLC programming, instrumentation, rig safety systems, and electronic data acquisition platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Demonstrated success in troubleshooting complex electronic and control system failures.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor technicians in the field.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to rigs and well sites, including remote locations.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with specific oilfield rig systems (e.g., pump control, safety interlocks, well service monitoring systems).
  • Knowledge of API, IEC, and oilfield safety standards.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, HMI programming, or industrial automation platforms.
