To provide secondary school age students an opportunity to participate in extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasure of sport and the principles of fair play.
- Organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics for the Holyoke Public Schools.
- Provides leadership in the selection, assignments, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
- Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
- Hires Officials, Athletic Trainers, EMT and Police Officers as needed or required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contests. And practices as needed.
- Develops and oversees the operational logistics of all·home athletic events including the conduct of all those in attendance.
- Supervises the cleaning, storage, and care of all athletic equipment.
- Observes coaches at practices and games, making recommendations as needed.
- Establishes the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport and verifies each athlete's eligibility.
- Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.
- Requisitions program supplies, uniforms and equipment for athletic programs
- Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events connected with the athletic program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds and accounting of monies involved.
- Arranges all details of visiting teams' needs, including team entrance, locker room, bus parking, etc.
- Arranges field and gym practice schedules.
- Coordinates field use with the Parks Department and gym use with HPS Facility staff.
- Arranges the practice schedule for the coaches on the fields and in the gyms.
- Keeps records of the results of varsity high school athletic contests, and maintains a record file of athletic awards.
- Directs an in-school, co-curricular program designed to foster support for the athletic teams and school spirit among non-participants.
- Conducts orientation for all coaches to ensure adherence of MIAA, PVIAC and School Committee rules, policies and procedures.
- Establishes and adheres to a regular schedule of inspection of all athletic facilities and installations to maintain and improve their safety.
- Conducts seasonal "Parent Information Nights" to review rules and regulations.
- Prepares and distributes athletic awards each season and 4 year awards for graduating athletes.
- Conducts end of season meetings with coaches to evaluate the season and discuss the needs of the next season (equipment and uniform needs and scheduling).

Job Requirements
- Master's Degree
2 Massachusetts' Teacher or Director/Supervisor Certification
- Experience in athletics or sports management
- Demonstrated knowledge of the M.I.A.A. rules, policies & procedures
- Demonstrated ability to train and supervise coaches and staff
REPORTS TO: High School Principal
SUPERVISES: Coaches, Athletic Trainer and Athletic Department staff
SALARY: According to HEA Contract
- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
