The Snowsports School Apprentice Instructor supports children’s group lessons and seasonal programs, primarily working with students ages six and under. Apprentice Instructors assist with class activities and provide a safe, positive learning environment under the direct supervision of an experienced adult team member from the Snowsports School.

Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions (including but not limited to):
- Be a positive and professional ambassador of The Highlands, and Snowsports in general, to all guests.
- Adhering to all Snowsports School safety policies.
- Assisting instructors with outside responsibilities and class management.
- Assisting instructors with children’s group lessons.
- Assisting instructors when signing up and checking in for lessons.
- Other duties as assigned when needed by manager.
Qualifications (knowledge, skills, certifications, education, etc)
- At least 14 years of age.
- Must be reliable, dependable, and timely.
- Able to work with children.
- Available during peak periods (weekends and holidays)
- Able to work inside and outside in a winter environment.
- Able to stand for longer periods, sometimes in ski and/or snowboard boots.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to ski for up to 8 hours per day.
- Must able to teach ski lessons in harsh winter weather (cold, snow, wind, rain, sleet, ice).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assist adult instructors with kids camp group lessons.
- Apprentice instructors will be monitored and supervised by adult Snowsports School team members at all times.
- Demonstrate and communicate proper ski techniques in accordance with the guidelines established by the Highlands Snowsports School and Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI)
- Be familiar with and adhere to the policies and procedures of the resort Team Member Handbook and the Snowsports School Manual.
Work Environment:
- The instructor work environment is primarily outdoors in the winter weather. Temperature can vary greatly throughout the day and from day-to-day.
- Must be able to ski or ride in snow, low visibility, powder, ice, hard pack, rain, sleet.
Position type and expected hours of work:
- The junior instructor is a part time position, usually weekends and select holiday time periods.
- Typical work day is 8:45am – 3:00pm.
- A 30 minute lunch break occurs from 12:00pm – 12:30pm daily.
