For Mental Health Consultant position that is full-time and permanent, recruitment bonuses include: $3,000 on start date, $3,000 at 6 months of service, $5,000 at 1 year of service and $7,000 at 2 years of service. For Job shares, salary, bonuses/allowances are pro-rated in accordance with hours worked.

Reporting to the Regional Manager Mental Health and Addictions, this position requires a unique blend of knowledge, clinical and psychological skills; The incumbent has the problem-solving ability, critical thinking skills and clinical judgment required to provide holistic (biological, psychological, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, social and spiritual), client centered process and care to individuals, families and groups. This position is part of a multi-disciplinary team that integrates services with various community resources. 

The incumbent takes the lead in assessing, planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating care to ensure a coordinated holistic and culturally relevant approach to meet the needs of the client; Conducts mental status exams, suicide risk assessment, identification of persons at risk of harm to self and/or others, and crisis response; Develops strategies to support client self-efficacy; Advocates for the dignity and self-respect of all individuals; Uses a holistic approach to facilitate individual learning in relation to self-care and health promotion; Encourages clients to participate in interpersonal and other therapeutic activities to enhance their interpersonal skills; Responds to the needs related to mental illness, suicide ideation, crisis assessment and support anger management and past trauma/abuse history; Maintains confidentiality of all client related information and serves as client advocate also to protect their rights. 

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are typically acquired through an undergraduate degree in social work or a mental health related field, and five (5) years of recent experience providing front line counselling and trauma and addiction therapy. A master’s degree in social work or related field is an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

As an Indeterminate Mental Health Consultant you will earn a Tier Two $15/hour premium allowance as the community indicated in the first paragraph is considered “difficult to fill.” This applies to Arviat, Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet, Gjoa
