We are looking for someone to join Team Yuma as Facilities Management Crew Leader, working with the Yuma Facilities Management Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible in overseeing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing facility systems, inspecting buildings for compliance and safety, and coordinating work with contractors and staff.
Under basic supervision, supervises work crews in assigned facilities, and assigns work tasks to work crews; assures maintenance and repair projects meet City quality standards. Performs skilled work in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), electrical, carpentry, and plumbing maintenance; assists with other construction and repair trade specialties.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supervises, schedules, and trains staff; assigns daily tasks, projects, and priorities; evaluates staff performance; assists staff and resolves priorities, workload, resource allocation, and equipment issues.
- Monitors work sites and enforces safety rules and regulations; verifies that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition; assures maintenance and repair issues are properly identified, addressed, and resolved; reports unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, security issues and illegal activities.
- Inspects facilities and identifies operational problems and maintenance issues; verifies that facilities are clean, safe, secure and in compliance with state and Federal regulations and FMD standards.
- Performs skilled building maintenance work in electrical, electronics, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and specialty systems for the Facilities Management Division (FMD).
- Works independently, and makes appropriate decisions based on work experience; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Performs repairs, preventive maintenance, and component replacement on plumbing, electrical, security, mechanical systems, and aquatic facility systems; reviews work performed by outside contractors and subordinate staff.
- Performs maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifies supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
- Operates a variety of specialized equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Maintains records of services performed, and time and material costs.
- Evaluates FMD operations and building management systems, and recommends system improvements, and environmentally responsible and resource-efficient building management techniques.
- Supports the relationship between the City and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, vision, values and the “Yuma Way”, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED equivalent, four years of journey level experience in skilled building trades, preferably including work with the City of Yuma; AND six months leadership experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Tools, equipment, and specialty motorized equipment used in building maintenance and building trades.
- Local, state and Federal building codes and related standards and regulations.
- Operation, maintenance, repair and safety standards for facilities management systems and equipment.
- Federal and state safety rules and regulations, including OSHA requirements.
- Techniques for use and storage of chemicals, including OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
- Environmentally responsible and resource-efficient building maintenance techniques.
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Identifying and evaluating unsafe conditions and mechanical problems.
- Troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating and maintaining electrical, HVAC, power, security, fire suppression, water treatment, plumbing and specialty equipment and components.
- Making operating adjustments and repairs to building system components and equipment.
- Reading designs, estimates, plans, and specifications for building systems and projects.
- Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
- Planning and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
- Estimating time, labor and material requirements for projects.
- Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
- Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
- Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co-workers and others.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Arizona State Driver’s License is required. Commercial Driver’s License and specific technical training and certifications may be required for some incumbents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
