About the Department
The successful candidate will be able to teach Nursing courses, will be an active participant in the department, and will teach at the main Fairfield campus, the centers in Vacaville and Vallejo.
The position requires subject matter expertise in Maternal Nursing, and/or Pediatric Nursing in addition to Medical Surgical Nursing experience.
Position Duties
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned.
- Teach a variety of nursing courses, both theory and clinical , including but not limited to Maternal Child Health (OB portion) and or Pediatrics.
- Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations; inform students about course requirements; evaluate student’s clinical performance; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports; and maintain required student attendance and scholastic records.
- Participate in Student Learning Outcomes Assessment and Program Review.
Participate in staff/division meetings and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. - Teaching assignments may include evening and weekend hours and off-campus instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Master’s degree in NURSING ; OR Bachelor’s degree in Nursing AND Master’s degree in health education or health science.
OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher
2. A current California Registered Nursing License
3. At least one year’s full-time experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last 5 years in an acute med-surg setting, OR teaching in an RN pre/post-licensure nursing program for a minimum of one academic year in the last 5 years.
Qualifications are subject to approval from the Board of Registered Nursing for the State of California.

Equivalency is defined as possessing the general education for the degree and the major coursework for the degree. The equivalency request form is included in the application.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience teaching Nursing at the college level, or completion of a course which includes practice in teaching NURSING
- Clinical experience in an additional specialty area, such as Geriatrics, Obstetrics, or Mental Health Nursing.
- Ability to function as part of a teaching team.
- Ability to use computers, multimedia, and other technologies as teaching and learning tools
- Demonstrated ability to work at a level beyond the minimum requirements. Effective oral and written communication skills.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of and recent clinical experience in acute medical-surgical or mental health nursing theory and clinical practice;
- Ability to utilize multiple teaching methods which include critical thinking and problem-solving strategies.
- Candidates must possess a commitment to encouragement of learning and an enthusiastic attitude toward learning;
- Sensitivity to teach students from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds, including the disabled, who may have wide ranges of abilities;
- A willingness to take initiative in co-curricular activities, special events, and division projects
- A desire to participate in professional growth activities;
- A willingness to participate in governance of the Division and the College.
