About the Department


Pitt Community College is seeking a Department Chair of Welding Technology to provide leadership and vision for our Welding Department. In this role, you’ll oversee program operations, mentor faculty, and teach welding courses while building strong connections with students, industry partners, and the community. This position is an opportunity to shape the future of welding education at PCC while preparing the next generation of skilled professionals.

Position Duties

What You’ll Do

  • Provides leadership for the Welding Department, including budgeting, scheduling, equipment management, and long-range planning.
  • Teaches and develops welding courses, prepares instructional materials, assesses student learning, and maintains compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
  • Recruits, advises, and supports students in registration, scholarships, career placement, and graduation.
  • Supervises and evaluates department faculty, staff, and student workers; oversee hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Promotes the program through tours, career days, and community/industry outreach; maintain strong industry partnerships.
  • Participates in campus committees, professional organizations, and ongoing professional development.
  • Ensures a safe, effective learning environment by maintaining equipment, enforcing safety protocols, and modeling professional practice.

Other Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

Associate’s degree in Welding or related field and three to five years of teaching and welding experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities; Certified Welding Inspector and/or Certified Welding Educator preferred
