OVERVIEW

The Instructor provides specialized instruction for various state and federally funded programs intended to engage a diverse population of learners. For the purposes of developing refugees and immigrants’ ability to effectively perform courses of study in English and acquire the English language.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards;
  • Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so as to ensure that learners meet and exceed learning targets;
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages the learner responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies;
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of the learner;
  • Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating the learners progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferable in Education or related discipline. Or with a minimum of three years TESOL experience is required;
  • Availability to work on a variable schedule;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate and build lasting relationships and partnerships with program and field office staff;
  • Sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELLs;
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel and database programs;
  • Ability to facilitate group discussion, analyze situations, and draw conclusions;
  • Highly adaptable and flexible with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding work environment;
  • Must have dedication to human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people; and
  • Good sense of humor and pleasant, diplomatic manner is desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
