POSITION PURPOSE:
This position leads and develops a team tasked with designing new infrastructure and overseeing the safe operation and timely restoration of the TCEC distribution system, while leveraging new technology to reduce outage duration.
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Internal Responsibility - Provide leadership and direction to TCEC's system operations team. Support the Engineering Senior Manager, Vice President of Operations, and other departments as needed, serving as a representative of system operations. Maintain open communication with construction operations to ensure alignment and effective coordination.
External Responsibility - Ensure that TCEC's system operation practices reflect current industry standards and best practices, promoting safe and reliable operations. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with utility partners across the service territory and throughout the state.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, and evaluation of team members, which includes, but is not limited to, effectively communicating cooperative policies and other information to teammates and ensuring that they have a clear understanding of their responsibilities.
- Consistently models and reinforces the TCEC Essential Attributes.
- Provides regular feedback to the system operations teammates for both performance and behavior.
- Committed to developing and maintaining a culture that is dedicated to finding solutions.
- Leads the team that proactively monitors real-time activity, system performance, and operational status of all distribution assets. Responsibilities include prioritizing and expediting operations and repairs, assigning outages and/or system disturbances, complying with transmission directives, and coordinating outage management, all while ensuring safe work practices in accordance with policy.
- Builds and maintains a productive relationship with ISO, TSO, and other grid regulatory entities and their control rooms.
- Assists with the development and updating of the Tri-County Electric Cooperative Emergency Operations Plan.
- Supports proactive monitoring real-time activity, performance, and operational status of all distribution assets, including assigning outages and/or system disturbances, complying with transmission directives and outage coordination/management.
- Ensures compliance with ERCOT requirements for load shed obligations.
- Supports and facilitates the long-term skill development of teammates.
- Supports the Engineering Senior Manager and the Vice President of Operations with other duties assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - A bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field is required. Relevant experience may be a substitute for formal education.
Experience - A minimum of 5 years of progressive electric utility experience in operations, system operations, dispatching, engineering, or utility project management. A bachelor's degree may substitute for up to 3 years of experience.
Certification/License, etc. - Industry certifications relevant to system operations or utility management are preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Must maintain ongoing education aligned with the Cooperative's goals. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and be able to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Physical requirements include the ability to stand and walk; frequently sit, bend, stoop, or squat; push and/or pull; reach above shoulder level; twist; climb; balance; kneel; and crouch as needed.
