Job Summary:
The Structural Intern supports the structural engineering team by assisting in the design and analysis of building and infrastructure projects. This role provides exposure to structural systems, calculations, and industry software under the supervision of licensed engineers.
Primary Essential Functions:
- Assist in preparing structural drawings, calculations, and models.
- Support analysis of structural loads, materials, and system performance.
- Conduct research on codes, standards, and building materials.
- Participate in site visits and inspections as assigned.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project teams on structural solutions.
Secondary Essential Functions:
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Work collaboratively and effectively with clients and colleagues, including cross-functional teams, peers, direct reports, and leadership, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Knowledge
- Basic understanding of structural engineering principles and building codes.
- Familiarity with construction materials such as steel, concrete, and timber.
- Awareness of structural modeling tools (Revit, SAP2000, ETABS).
Skills
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic drafting/modeling tools.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
Abilities
- Ability to learn industry software and practices quickly.
- Ability to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios.
- Ability to work effectively within a project team.
Qualifications:
Required
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Structural or Civil Engineering or related program.
- Strong academic performance in structural coursework.
- Basic proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit.
Preferred
- Prior internship, co-op, or research experience in structural engineering.
- Familiarity with structural modeling or analysis software.
- Involvement in ASCE or other engineering organizations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
- Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
- Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (up to 25 lbs.).
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.
