Program Overview
This is a full-time, in-person position based at our corporate office in Portland, Maine, for the duration of the 12-month Sales Apprenticeship Training Program. During this time, you will receive hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to the paper and packaging industry. Upon successful completion of the program, you will transition into a Sales Representative role located in one of Sappi’s established business markets across North America, where you will begin your career in field sales.
This position is designed to provide world-class training and hands-on experience in the paper and packaging industry. You’ll gain the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become a driving force in sales. Over time, you will take on more responsibility, including managing client accounts, leading sales initiatives, and contributing to strategic planning as a Sales Representative.
Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers (including spending time with customers outside of traditional business hours)

Work alongside our customer service and supply chain teams to support day-to-day customer activity

Build paper and paperboard industry knowledge, product knowledge, and sales fundamentals to engage with customers to understand their needs and assist the sales team in delivering tailored solutions

Conduct market research and competitor analysis to assist with strategic projects

Develop competencies in sales activities, i.e., lead development, maintaining CRM records, strategic selling plans, and business acumen

Promote sustainable products and communicate environmental benefits

Partner in cross-functional training with sales, marketing, operations, manufacturing, R&D, and sustainability
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field

1-2 years of sales experience through internships or employment, a plus

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM tools

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Adaptability, resilience, and eagerness to learn

Willingness to travel up to 50% as needed
