Director of Human Resources Position Overview

The Human Resources Director is a strategic leader that partners with senior leadership and site-level managers to ensure consistent application of HR policies, adherence to employment laws, and the development of a positive workplace culture. The HR Director provides expertise in employee relations and will drive compliance initiatives.

 

Director of Human Resources Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on complex employee relations issues, ensuring fair and consistent resolutions.
  • Develop and implement strategies to strengthen employee engagement, morale, and retention.
  • Provide Coaching and guidance to managers on performance management, corrective actions and conflict resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws and regulations across multiple states.
  • Monitor and update HR policies and employee handbook to reflect legal and regulatory changes.
  • Oversee compliance-related reporting, audits, and recordkeeping, including EEO, ADA, FMLA and other statutory requirements.
  • Partner with legal counsel and senior leadership on risk management and compliance initiatives.
  • Lead and develop a team of HR professionals across multiple sites.
  • Partner with executives to align HR strategies with business goals.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on HR compliance, employee relations, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Drove a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across all locations
  • Other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission and abide by our organizational values

 

Director of Human Resources Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish a plus
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state employment laws and HR compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Proven expertise in employee relations, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to implement practical solutions.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Director of Human Resources Requirements and/or Professional Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree or HR certification (SPHR/SHRM-SCP) preferred.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience overseeing HR functions in multi-site, multi-state environments required.
  • Strong background in employee relations, compliance, and training design/delivery.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Sit for long periods of time
  • Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less, working on computer screen for long periods of time
  • This role supports multiple locations across several states; regular travel (up to 25–35%) may be required.
