Job Description:

Summary:

The Digital Storyteller will work with the Assistant Director, Marketing and Communications in the AU Career Center. The Digital Storyteller’s primary focus will be to create videos, graphics, and social media content to showcase AU Career Center services and resources and student and alumni success stories. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a process to identify student and alumni success stories; scheduling and conducting video interviews; producing, and editing, these videos and other digital media featuring AU Career Center services. 

  • Creating video content for social media sites, including Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-Time.

  • Student.

  • 15 - 17 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.10 - $19.00 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be a current American University student. 

  • Ability to initiate tasks without direct prompting. 

  • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere, or willingness to achieve proficiency through self-guided online training, and Assistant Director, Marketing and Communications help. 

  • Familiarity with operating a professional camera and microphone for photo and video shoots. 

  • Experience conducting interviews for news stories and developing video and graphics for web and social media. 

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Previous experience working in an office. 

  • Attention to detail and deadlines. 

  • Proficiency with Instagram, YouTube, and social media best practices. 

  • Must reside in DC, Maryland, or Virginia during period of employment. 

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop or Illustrator or Canva.

  • Familiarity with career services and/or higher education.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • This position is integral to the AU Career Center’s marketing and outreach work. It is most appropriate for graduate student or an exceptionally experienced undergraduate who seeks a career in marketing or communications. 

  • This position is open to students with or without a Federal Work Study award.
