Vice President/Chief Compliance Officer & HIPAA Privacy Officer provides direction and oversight of SBH's Compliance Program. The VP/CCO is responsible for identifying and assessing areas of compliance risk for SBH.
The VP communicates the importance of the Compliance Program to Executive & Senior Management and the Board of Trustees; prepares and distributes the SBH Code of Conduct; develops and implements education programs addressing compliance and the Code of Conduct; implements and monitors a retaliation-free internal reporting process, including an anonymous reporting system; and collaborates with Executive Management to effectively incorporate the Compliance Program within SBH operations and programs and to carry out the executive leadership responsibilities of the position.
The VP is responsible for maintaining the effectiveness of SBH’s Compliance Program; serving as the primary resource for Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement information; maintaining compliance with applicable federal and state rules; managing the conflict of interest disclosure process and acting as a consultative resource for reimbursement and regulatory issues throughout SBH.
The VP is responsible for HIPAA Privacy at SBH, including establishing HIPAA policies & procedures, educating stakeholders about HIPAA requirements, responding to privacy complaints, conducting HIPAA privacy investigations, maintaining compliance with applicable federal rules on HIPAA and state and local rules on privacy and patient confidentiality, coordinating with the HIPAA Security Officer, serving as a consultative resource on HIPAA and managing the disclosure process.
The VP has direct access to the Board of Trustees for the purpose of advising and making recommendations about regulatory compliance and HIPAA privacy issues.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work diligently to foster a culture and climate of sensitivity to ethical and compliant behavior within SBH, including a culture of compliance and HIPAA compliance.
- Collaborate with other departments to conduct a formal, regulatory risk assessment and commit high risk areas to an annual or biennial Compliance Work Plan, approved by the Compliance Committee and Board of Trustees.
- Implement, operate, publicize, and monitor retaliation-free reporting channels, including an anonymous reporting system available to all employees, volunteers, and affiliated providers for both compliance and HIPAA.
- Ensure that internal controls are capable of preventing and detecting instances or patterns of illegal, unethical, or improper conduct by employees, agents, affiliated providers, or others working with SBH.
- Coordinate internal investigations of alleged HIPAA and/or Compliance violations, including working with Legal and/or outside legal counsel, as appropriate, to conduct, authorize, or oversee investigations of matters determined to merit investigation.
- Develop productive working relationships with Legal, Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, Clinical, and others, to effectively communicate HIPAA, ethics and compliance standards to all departments and serve as a resource.
- Serve as a member of relevant SBH Committees to identify potential compliance issues and serve as a resource for those committees.
- Provide oversight of compliance with grants.
- Participate in local and national compliance and HIPAA education and networking programs for healthcare compliance and privacy officers.
