Job Summary:  

The Electrical Intern supports the electrical engineering team by assisting in the design and analysis of power, lighting, and communication systems for building and infrastructure projects. This role provides exposure to electrical design principles, industry codes, and integrated building systems. 

 

Primary Essential Functions:  

  • Assist in preparing electrical drawings, calculations, and reports.
  • Support system design for power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems.
  • Conduct research on codes, standards, and sustainable electrical practices.
  • Participate in site visits and field inspections.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers on coordinated building systems.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):  

 

Knowledge 

  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles and building systems.
  • Awareness of power, lighting, and communication system design.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or electrical design tools.

 

Skills 

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

 

Abilities 

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Ability to learn design software quickly.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.

 

Qualifications:  

 

Required 

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Electrical Engineering or related program.
  • Strong academic performance in relevant coursework.
  • Basic proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit.

 

Preferred 

  • Internship or co-op experience in electrical design.
  • Familiarity with electrical load calculation software.
  • Involvement in IEEE or related professional organizations.

 

Physical Requirements:  

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
  • Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (up to 25 lbs.).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.
