The National Account Manager reports to the Head of Retail Sales and leads strategy, development and sales execution for key retail customers. This sales leader is responsible for establishing vision and strategy, implementing operational plans, and delivering programs and product offerings that create value for the customer and support Outdoor Cap’s strategic business plans. The NAM is directly responsible for leading and executing all aspects of the sales plan and for maintaining the health of the customer relationship by focusing on category development, distribution, shelf management, and execution. Leads, mentors, and develops direct reports that support sales and customer support functions within the Network. The ideal candidate has sales leadership experience working with national accounts in the Mass and Ecom channels preferably in headwear and/or apparel categories and has demonstrated the ability to grow and expand distribution in store and online.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Achieves or exceeds defined sales, inventory and gross profit goals
  • Functions as the main point of contact for customer and builds effective and influential relationships at the buyer level
  • Maintains customer loyalty through the highest level of service and commitment by working with cross-functional teams at Outdoor Cap to ensure on time and in full delivery.
  • Leads a business planning process that establishes vision, strategy and operational plans; and helps provide definition of goals and targets
  • Provides creative and opportunistic solutions to adversity in order to achieve targets
  • Understands and articulates customer needs and opportunities in order to develop sales, product and merchandising plans that are clear in direction and purpose
  • Leads the sales and product development lifecycle through effective collaboration with Product Development, Design, Sourcing and Merchandising teams
  • Aligns with Sales Support, Purchasing and Operations to ensure flawless and timely program execution
  • Aligns with Business Intelligence to ensure accurate forecasting and utilize sales, inventory and retailer POS reporting to deliver insights that help drive the business
  • Builds meaningful relationships with team members across the organization
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with senior leadership
  • Maintains a strong awareness of the marketplace, competition, trend and innovation
  • Demonstrates a robust knowledge of Outdoor Cap’s brands, products and systems
  • Maintains & continues to develop relationships with customers which can be leveraged for Outdoor Cap’s long-term success.
  • Continuously assesses customer goals and strategies to determine an optimal sales plan for Outdoor Cap
  • Collaborates with Business Intelligence team to develop comprehensive and aligned annual Account Plans. These plans include forecasted sales and spending, annual promotional calendars and account profiles. Identify and understand the customer's needs and work with internal teams to customize plans that best meet the customer's strategic direction while optimizing Outdoor Cap’s growth opportunities.
  • Actively participates on the Sales Team through collaboration, communication and best-practice sharing with other sales managers.
  • Manages travel expenses and company resources in a prudent manner.
  • Manages multiple retail accounts and adjusts sales tactics and procedures as appropriate for each customer
  • Monitors market trends, identifies competitive activity and develops action plans accordingly.
  • Executes strategic direction established by Outdoor Cap leadership with regards to pricing, program, and delivery to ensure profitability and market competitiveness.

  • Accurate sales forecasting, demand planning and inventory management. Maintains awareness of all cost centers, including factory, royalty, commission, inventory and operational cost-to-serve
  • High level computer experience in Microsoft Office products (Excel and PowerPoint).


Education and Qualifications

  • Existing experience in Ecom and Brick and Mortar sales preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or institution in Business, Marketing or related field, or combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 8+ years retail sales / merchandising, headwear or apparel background a plus.


Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (seated) 80% of the day and occasionally reach, bend and move inside the office to access files and product.
  • Domestic travel up to 30%
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform computer tasks and operate other office machinery.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with internal and external customers and must be able to exchange accurate information in a clear manner.
  • Ability to move 10-20 lbs occasionally throughout day.
  • Able to hear a telephone ring.
