This position pays $1400/week and is needed from December through March with a possibility of extension. 


The New York Philharmonic connects with millions of music lovers each season through live concerts in New York and around the world, as well as broadcasts, recordings, and education programs. After returning to a transformed David Geffen Hall in 2022, the Orchestra is acting on a renewed commitment to building on a legacy of more than 180 years, serving as a platform for today’s greatest musical artists and connecting with our communities. Gustavo Dudamel will become the Philharmonic’s Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Music and Artistic Director in the 2026–27 season.


The New York Philharmonic seeks a Temporary Orchestra Personnel Administrator to assist during a maternity leave. This position will be responsible for assisting with all facets of orchestra personnel management, administration of the orchestra schedule, and coordination of auditions for the New York Philharmonic.

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and communicate the Weekly Rehearsal and Concert schedule to the orchestra and staff
  • Interface with internal departments regarding orchestra and departmental needs
  • Attend production meetings
  • Communicate and track all schedule changes
  • Coordinate completion of hiring process for new musicians and substitute players
  • Coordinate process of securing appropriate visas and work authorization for new musicians
  • Coordinate hiring of musicians for special event performances and ancillary chamber events
  • Coordinate musician attendance at development and special events
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Serve as a resource to musicians for facilitating answers to all inquiries
  • With support of Orchestra Personnel Manager, coordinate all aspects of NYP auditions, including placing ads, posting repertoire lists, tracking applicants and communicating with candidates
  • Manage backstage operations for audition days and oversee audition volunteers and assistants
  • Coordinate musician hospitality activities
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned

 

Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years’ administrative/coordination experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Knowledge of orchestral repertoire, instrumentation and ability to read music. Experience playing an orchestral instrument preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, personal integrity and strict code of confidentiality and professionalism. Detail oriented and exceptional organizational skills with excellent clerical skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Ability to work nights and weekends.
