Description

The Field Safety Technician provides hands-on safety support in the field, focusing on steel erection, sitework, and concrete operations. This role involves observing critical lifts, coaching rigging practices, auditing unloading/receiving processes, and supporting operator training and qualification efforts. The technician works closely with supervisors and crews to reduce risk and ensure compliance with company safety standards.

Schedule:  Variable Shifts ( Days and Nights)

Compensation: $24 - $30 hourly based on experience 

Key Responsibilities

• Observe lifts in the field, ensuring proper rigging, signaling, and load handling.
• Audit receiving and unloading practices, ensuring only trained personnel with proper equipment handle materials.
• Provide coaching and spot-training for crews on rigging, tag line use, and safe load handling.
• Support training and qualification programs for riggers, signalpersons, forklift/telehandler operators, and mini-excavator operators.
• Enforce immediate stopgaps, including:
  • Highly competent in identifying the proper rigging equipment for each job. Taking the time to verify the condition of slings and straps before use, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Their ability to communicate clear and accurate signals to operators makes the unloading process smooth and hazard-free.
  • Provides excellent oversight in rigging and material handling operations. Their working knowledge of load capacities, sling angles, and inspection requirements ensures that every lift is performed safely. Team members respect their signaling authority, which helps maintain order and safety during critical lifts.

• Assist with the development and rollout of written SOPs, including:
  • Receiving/unloading procedures.
  • Critical lift triggers and pick plan requirements.
  • Hauling and securement protocols.
  • Equipment access control procedures.
    
    
• Partner with Purchasing on equipment safety recommendations (telehandlers, overhead lift options, rigging kits).
  
  
• Document observations, near misses, and property damage, and communicate findings to Safety leadership.

Requirements

• 2+ years in a field safety, rigging, or construction support role preferred.
• Strong knowledge of rigging, lifting equipment, and load handling safety.
• Familiarity with OSHA standards and best practices for steel erection, sitework, and concrete operations.
• Ability to coach and train field crews in a clear, respectful manner.
• Certifications in rigging, signalperson, forklift/telehandler, or OSHA 500/510 are preferred (or willingness to obtain).
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to hazard recognition.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
